MacBook Air in stores Tuesday, empty pocketbook in your future
Posted Jan 27th 2008 6:09PM by Joshua TopolskyFiled under: Laptops Just in case you were really, really anxious to get your hands on the MacBook Air, word on the street is that the little slivers are already in stores, and you’ll actually be able to stroll up into the place and nab them this Tuesday. Of course, old Jobsy has already said as much (”two weeks”), but the Boy Genius is making extra-dextra sure that everyone knows they really will be on the floor come next week. If you’re lucky enough to be employed by Apple as a “Genius,” then you’ll be getting some Air training tomorrow. Hey, it’s never too late to sign up and instantly be accepted for a job… (Read the full post about ‘MacBook Air in stores Tuesday, empty pocketbook in your future’…)

Buffalo combines keyboard with Skype handset
Buffalo has just added the BKBU-SKJ109/SV, a new keyboard with an attached Skype handset. The USB keyboard is a full 109 key model and includes a Skype certified handset to the right of the numeric keypad. Strangely it seems that this keyboard was either photographed with that wonderful iPhone hand-model or possibly the handset is just very small. The Buffalo BKBU-SKJ109/SV is going to be available beginning in early October and is expected to retail for $65. Surfacesound Compact Saves You Cost of a Ticket [Bluetooth]
The SurfaceSound Compact may be simply another bluetooth car speakerphone on paper, but its interface and design has definitely grabbed our attention. The visor-mounted SurfaceSound connects to your phone after the microphone is pulled down into position. This simple, tactile method of activation is superior to the usual button press and would make speakerphone usage easier to become a habit.galleryPost(’bluetrekss’, 3, ”); Though the $100 MSRP seems steep, it’s on par with other bluetooth devices at launch. The SurfaceSound Compact has a rechargeable battery rated for 15 hours of talk time or 22 days of standby, and features Bluetooth 1.2 connectivity. Like WoW, The Pirate Bay Has Reached 10 Million [Stats]
Torrent sharing group The Pirate Bay has asserted itself as “World’s Largest Tracker,” now claiming over 10 million peers sharing 1 million files. Not only is 10 million more than the population of New York City, it’s just about equal to the user numbers of the most successful MMO on the planet, World of Warcraft, which not so long ago announced the same user milestone…and may have a thing or two to say about The Pirate Bay’s title. Blizzard, like The Pirate Bay, implements a P2P system. Instead of avoiding issues of copyright, the developer utilizes P2P as an inexpensive way to distribute WoW updates and patches. And the last time we played WoW, which was admittedly some time ago, Blizzard’s P2P updater was pretty much mandatory to play the game. Case-Mate’s Diamond Case iPhone solution
I’m still hesitant to shell out $399 for an iPhone, but Case-Mate’s Diamond Case makes me appreciate my frugality even more. Because, how could I rationalize spending $399 on my iPhone and then not protect it with a $20,000 case? It’s handcrafted with 42 diamonds (3.5 carats) set in 18K gold; the diamonds are VVS1 clarity and H color. To protect the diamonds and gold is the Diamond Case, crafted of Carbon Fiber leather “previously available only in high end after-market cars (Techart Porsche) and very high end cell phones (Vertu).” As the site explains, quantities are “extremely limited.” My favorite part? - the link on the site for “Customer Testimonials.” Um, yeah, there are none to date. Amazon MP3 store to spread DRM-free love global in 2008
Posted Jan 27th 2008 6:14AM by Thomas RickerFiled under: Portable Audio var In perhaps the biggest threat to Apple’s global dominance of digital music, Amazon just announced the international rollout of Amazon MP3. Right, the on-line storefront offering DRM-free music from all four major labels. That’s 3.3 million songs (priced at $0.99 or less) from over 270k artists encoded in 256kbps MP3 files for playback on any PC, any Mac, and pretty much any portable device you might own. Sure, it’s beta but so is that gMail account you’ve been using for the past 4 years. (Read the full post about ‘Amazon MP3 store to spread DRM-free love global in 2008′…)

Dev Team’s 1.1.3 jailbreak for iPhone / iPod touch now available
Posted Jan 27th 2008 6:42AM by Thomas RickerFiled under: Cellphones, Portable Audio, Portable VideoIf you’ve got a certain brand loyalty to the official iPhone Dev Team then take note, they just released their own special flavor of the 1.1.3 jailbreak for iPhone / iPod touch. We guess that with the splitter version already outed (and it’s secrets revealed to Apple) there was no sense in keeping it under wraps any longer. The hack requires a v1.1.2 jailbroken device with the BSD Subsystem v1.5 or greater installed — it does NOT upgrade your baseband. All the usual cautions apply hacker-boy so be careful out there, we haven’t tested… yet.
