We recently saw some leaked footage of the upcoming Windows 7. Along with the footage came the rumor that it’s release was being pushed up and could be expected to hit stores sometime in 2009. Well, it turns out that was not accurate. According to an email that WinVistaClub received from Microsoft: Q. What is the expected timeline for the availability of Windows 7? A. We are currently in the planning stages for Windows 7 and expect it will take approximately 3 years to develop. The specific release date will be determined once the company meets its quality bar for release. That seems to answer that, we will just have to learn to like Vista or learn to use other alternatives. (Read the full post about ‘Windows 7’s estimated arrival: 2010/2011′…)

Posted Jan 28th 2008 3:09PM by Paul MillerFiled under: Laptops We’re short on specifics, but MSI looks to be getting behind Intel’s upcoming 45nm Diamondville processor in a big way — a totally unsurprising turn of events. Diamondville is pretty much built from the ground up for powering low-cost ultraportables of the Eee PC’s ilk, so we’re sure to be seeing it in all sorts of cheap computers in the coming year or so, but MSI is one of the first to announce a budget laptop built around the platform. Take one look at Robovie and kindly confirm with me that his eyes are nothing short of scary. While his main purpose is to be a mall rat, waiting for lost and confused folks to approach him for directions, the manufacturers ought to come up with a more aesthetically pleasing front before I’d open my mouth - let alone kids who tend to gravitate towards all things cute and soft. Robovie claims to be able to keep charge of 1,000 square feet of space with its 16 cameras, 6 laser range finders and 9 RFID tags which monitor a moving crowd, using a carefully crafted algorithm to determine if they are lost or not. Currently, Robovie can monitor up to 20 people simultaneously, making slower-paced malls a better place for him to work in. (Read the full post about ‘Robovie Freaks Me Out’…)

Although the product page shows these cute mini shopping carts being used to hold pens, sticky notes, and other office must-haves, there’s really no reason why the 6″ x 5.5″ x 3.75″ baskets couldn’t hold miniature-sized candy bars, cherries or grapes, or whole peppercorns. It isn’t clear whether the wheels spin, but how fun would it be if they did? Available now in blue and red for $9.95 each. Via Nerd Approved. We don’t have many details, but this NEC flask phone seems to be a combination of being liquid-powered and touch-screened, and is so crazy advanced that we think it’s probably a prototype. According to NEC, however, it’s going to be released sometime in 2008. We think it’s cool that the liquid inside will drain as you’re using the phone, allowing you to see just how much power you have left. Here’s to hoping this isn’t a Japan-only release. Sure, Hummers are bad for the environment, but do you know what else is? Cow farts. Yep, the methane in cow farts contributes to a surprisingly-high 5% of all global warming gasses out there, with methane being 22 times more potent at capturing atmospheric heat than carbon dioxide. The good news? A couple of Japanese scientists seem to have stumbled upon a way to neutralize this problem. Costing about $1 per day per cow, some simple food additives that include a blend of nitrates and the amino acid cysteine could greatly suppress the methane production in a cow’s stomach, making their emissions much more earth-friendly.
