Bloggers and commercial sites love it when a story or news article winds up on the front page of Digg. But for them, their future success may become bittersweet as their Web servers may be overloaded from users flooding in from the voter driven content site.
For those of you who never visited, Digg is a website where users vote on stories, videos, articles, and other nuggets of Internet goodness. When an article picks up enough votes, it lands on the front page. Of course, this means millions of Digg users see those front page stories and will naturally want to rush to see what the article is about.

Guess the average two-button mouse is no longer just meant for clicking your way through World of Warcraft. GeekAlerts has covered a wireless mouse that actually comes with a built-in remote control. I would suggest having stuff like these being banned from conventions as someone could seriously mess up a major presentation with the support team running helter-skelter, wondering what went wrong without noticing a person in the crowd chuckling away. Posted Feb 1st 2008 9:33AM by Joshua TopolskyFiled under: Desktops, Laptops We’re not saying a sign in some little computer shop in Milford, New Hampshire is an indication of popular opinion, but there’s a reason those presidential candidates always end up in small towns on the campaign trail. Whatever the case may be, the folks at A&D computer are here to help… uninstall Vista from your PC. Hey, uninstalling unwieldy OSs is all well and good, but personally, we’d like to know more about this notebook repair.Tags: digital, sat-nav, cable, plasma (Read the full post about ‘Is this a ’sign’ of things to come for Vista?’…)

Getting every aspect of your life recorded would be pretty handy, especially when you want to preserve all your youthful memories in a fresh manner long after you’ve become a grandfather. NEC’s Life Recording Interface concept could make that dream a reality, whereby the tiny silver orb is hung from your neck, capturing every single detail that goes on. No idea on how much memory it has nor type of memory it uses, but it must be pretty far in the future to have some dew-shaped pendant hanging from our necks to store all events for posterity. Guess anyone wearing one of these will definitely be much more careful with what he/she says/does. (Read the full post about ‘Life Recording Interface’…)

Amazon’s Jeff Bezos has said that the company can’t keep up with demand for its ebook reader, the Kindle. At Amazon’s fourth quarter earnings call, Bezos detailed a Wii-like success for the ugly white box: Kindle is, in terms of demand, is outpacing our expectations […] We’re working very hard to increase the number of units that we can build and supply per week. This comes alongside the news that Amazon wants to buy the audiobook company Audible, for a planned $300 million. Thanks to Apple’s iPhone, everyone is pretty hot on touch screen technology these days. Norway’s Elliptic Labs begs to differ with its new touchless user interface technology. This new system can detect movements in 3D without the need for you to even touch the display, and best of all is, you don’t have to be saddled down by special sensors on your hand. All you need to do is point at the screen in order to manipulate the objects in 3D. It cannot be implemented in mobile devices at the moment, but future improvements ought to see a reverse in that situation. (Read the full post about ‘Touchless User Interface Technology’…)

DoCoMo has successfully developed an office security system that is based on RFID chips located in its cell phones. This system, known as Kaismart, allows cell phones to unlock doors, access computers and other networked peripherals, clock in and out, and even pay for your food. Woe to the person who actually loses his/her handset. I guess there are pros and cons to such convergence technology, but over-reliance on a single device isn’t necessarily a good thing either. Posted Feb 1st 2008 11:32AM by Darren MurphFiled under: Handhelds Every so often, a gizmo crosses our path that truly makes us question the thought process of its creator(s). This particular Friday, that gizmo is the Blinger. This so-called “portable ATM” apparently enables users to whip out an oversized, one-trick-pony of a device and instantly send cash for wares, check your current level of fundage, calculate currency conversions and wonder why on earth they haven’t invented this thing called “online banking.” Oh, wait.[Via InventorSpot]Tags: cool gear, Gadget, Hi-fi, hi fi (Read the full post about ‘Blinger portable ATM isn’t at all relevant, handy’…)
