Change the way you call with MOBIVOX
Back in December, we reported about a new non-traditional phone service called MOBIVOX. It is different from a standard phone service like that offered from AT&T or from a VoIP service offered by Vonage mainly because you already have to have a phone to use the service. You place a call by calling a local access number based on your location. You’re recognized by the landline or mobile phone you are calling from and are then asked by “VoxGirl” what number you want to call. You say the person’s name and “VoxGirl” connects your call. How do I get set up? Membership in MOBIVOX is free. You simply go to the website to sign-up. (Read the full post about ‘Change the way you call with MOBIVOX’…)

Digital SLR cameras: Before you buy
Photo: Nikon D300 DX 12.3MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S VR DX Nikkor Zoom LensPrice: $2,479.95 and ranked 5/5 stars with 51 customer reviews! Back in December 2007, I made my first post about a mid-range Digital SLR camera that I had just purchased - the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi. (scroll mid-way down the gift guide to read). In advance of posting about a new group of wonderful long-lensed SLR’s arriving to market in the next few weeks, I wanted to guide you towards a wonderful article recently written by Mike Davidison, CEO of Newsvine, “A Rookie Guide to Digital SLR Cameras.” Mike dives right in and explains the query that so many of us reach after owning a number of pocket-fitting 7-10 megapixel cameras, “What’s the story with the SLR?” Why would I want to own such a big bulky camera? Duke Nukem Forever may not be vaporware. It looks like the game that’s been baking for a dozen or so years will finally see a release after all. And if the Dallas Business Journal can be trusted, it will be out this very year.

According to an e-mail exchange between the newspaper and the President of 3D Realms, the title is likely to hit in late 2008, but it might miss by a couple months. It’s also expected to hit the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC, although that is still unofficial.

It also seems as if the original Duke Nukem will find its way onto Xbox Live Arcade sometime this year.

My immediate reaction to all things Duke Nukem is unbridled excitement.

Nokia E90 Communicator Review - Wired
Wired reviews the Nokia E90 Communicator and writes, “No, it’s not going to tuck you into bed at night, and we’re guessing it won’t get you chicks either (really though, what gadget does?) but the E90 is definitely a good choice for those who want laptop functionality dressed up in the guise of a cell phone.” Read more about the Nokia E90 Communicator. Sony has a history of re-releasing games that have sold well on a budget label. For the PS2 and PSOne, this label was called “Greatest Hits” or “Platinum” across Europe. Now, it looks like the PS3 will be getting the same treatment, only this time the label is called “PlayStation 3 the Best.”

Only announced for Japan so far, the budget line will be available from March 19. The initial batch of games will include:

  • Ridge Racer 7
  • Ninja Gaiden Sigma
  • Resistance: Fall of Man
  • FolksSoul (Folklore)
  • Gundam: Target in Sight

The games will be priced at US$36 compared to the PS2 budget titles that are priced at $26 or less.

It seems a little early for Sony to be introducing a budget range for the PS3.

Walkman Case Hides iPod

Walkman Case Hides iPod
iPod theft has gotten pretty common since Apple’s portable media player took the world by storm, so what’s an iPod owner supposed to do? Well, other than make sure it remains well hidden, you can always take the ingenious route by storing it inside the shell of an unused Sony Walkman. How ironic, using the dead “body” of the 80s iconic audio player to keep the millennium’s top PMP away from the sight of many. Just make sure you don’t use the iPod’s famous white earphones with it or you’ll probably give the game away. Folks who are great with DIY jobs will be able to find this a very viable project to keep them occupied over the weekend. (Read the full post about ‘Walkman Case Hides iPod’…)

N-Gage First Access hacked for N95 8GB, others
Posted Feb 6th 2008 8:29AM by Paul MillerFiled under: Cellphones, Gaming That didn’t take long. A mere day after the release of Nokia’s N-Gage First Access gaming preview exclusively to N81 users, the app has been cracked open to work with any N-series device with enough horsepower. The hack was performed by Nokia regular P@sco, and comes in a convenient downloadable form, or an only slightly involved guide to hacking the app yourself. BiTMICRO brings SSD storage up to 1.6TB
With a lot of people looking towards solid-state-storage we are still limited by two factors, storage size and pricing. Well thanks to BiTMICRO we now have one less to worry about, of course it still does not make a realistic item for most of us to drool over. BiTMICRO has announced a 1.6TB SSD, which should clearly put an end to anyones storage problem. Except, with that huge storage option available it will most likely just make the price barrier a little higher. BiTMICRO has not released any pricing information for this drive, but we can imagine it not being cheap. The drive itself is in their 3.5-inch E-Disk Altima Ultra 320 SCSI series and is enterprise grade offering sustained data transfer rates of up to 230 MB/sec and peak rate at 320 MB/SEC in burst mode. Smart Holograms To Monitor Health
Smart holograms that utilize materials known as hydrogels could soon be used to monitor our health, as it shrinks and swells in response to local environment conditions. Imagine diabetics using it to check their blood-sugar levels, patients suffering from kidney disorders to check on adrenaline levels and even used by security forces to detect various threatening chemicals like anthrax. I can imagine that the final product will be something like a “Windows Vista Capable” sticker being stuck to our skin, where the color change and size denotes what’s going on in our bodies. The Spice Gun Packs a Piquant Punch
Despite its name, the Spice Gun is not a clever new weapon to dispatch 1990s Girl Bands. Instead, it is a concept delivery system for seasonings.Three chambers in the barrel hold your choice of spices and pumping the trigger compresses air in the handle. Press the nub on the back to release, spraying spice onto the previously bland plate of food. We expect it to be horribly impractical in use, but who cares? Cooking was never so much fun.Product page [Design Boom via Engadget] Tags: gizmos, gadgets, design, hdtv (Read the full post about ‘The Spice Gun Packs a Piquant Punch’…)
