February 7th is the official European launch date for the Palm Centro, the company’s entry-level smartphone powered by Palm OS. It is one of Palm’s bright spot in a very competitive market – the device has been met with enthusiasm by critics because it is cheap (with a service contract), although other smartphones like the Blackjack II are becoming really cheap as well. Google pokes Microsoft in the eye (again) by releasing the Team Edition of its applications. Users can join using their corporate email addresses and see other users from the same company. Users can invite others within the company to collaborate on Google Apps Team Edition. Users can share documents with any or all employees of the company, and manage shared calendar in a way that is close to Outlook Exchange. Google hopes to that invites for the team edition will flow just like “zombies” invitations on Facebook and it’s not hard to predict that small businesses might pick this up to save on their IT budget. We have a sneaking feeling that law enforcement officers might not have the same understanding of technology as you, Gadget Lab reader. This hilarious case from blogger Rottin’ in Denmark tells a story of the astounding ineptitude of Danish police when confronted by 1. The internet, 2. An iMac and 3. WiFi. This wouldn’t be so bad, but the cops had come a-knockin’ to investigate computer crime.According to the blog post, the Police made a dawn house call to investigate a suspicious credit card transaction made over the writer’s open WiFi network. Police [Doughface]: We traced the transaction back to the wireless network in this apartment.Rottin in Denmark [Me]: But we have an open wireless connection. Posted Feb 7th 2008 3:31AM by Thomas RickerFiled under: Misc. Gadgets Not that we were too worried, but Bill Gates may have found that job he was looking for. Patty Stonesifer, CEO of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and former Microsoft VP, said that she would vacate her position on January 1st, 2009 but will remain with the organization. Perhaps the move has something to do with her giving away $16 billion of Bill’s hard-earned stash? The obvious successor of course, is Mr. Gates who chairs the foundation and vacates his position at Microsoft this summer. However, the foundation’s new CEO has not been officially named. That leaves direct control over its $38.7 billion endowment up for grabs. (Read the full post about ‘Did Bill Gates find a job?’…)

While this ‘toy’ meets all US Federal toy safety standards, this pump-action, pneumatic gun can shoot sweet but deadly marshmallows (or handfuls of mini-marshmallows) up to 40′. While the Geeks have featured another Marshmallow Blaster, the older Blaster doesn’t have near the power to shoot 40′. The easy-to-refill bolt action design ensures fast, nonstop action. Front grip is detachable for easy cleanup. Don’t just join the cubicle farm weapons race, go ahead and win the race… for now. Gimmie! (Read the full post about ‘40-Foot Marshmallow Blaster’…)

Another day another leaked image, this time its the upcoming Motorola M990 Smart Rider. The info is courtesy of the FCC and it shows off a phone with a unique name and purpose. According to the details the Motorola M990 will be called the Smart Rider and will be a “GSM high tier fixed mobile car phone.” The thought of a phone that is limited to a car sounds really funny these days, but the specs make it sound almost like a normal mobile phone. Based on the FCC’s “Electromagnetic Compatibility Test Report” the Smart Rider offers “not only voice but also high speed data services, entertainment, information, advanced network connection, BT connections, GPS navigation services, etc. (Read the full post about ‘Leaked image: Motorola M990 Smart Rider’…)

No one will know the difference.[Via Luxurylaunches]Tags: tech, home theater, buyers guides, gadgets (Read the full post about ‘Is the Givori Serendipity the world’s ugliest cellphone?’…)
