Posted Feb 28th 2008 6:41PM by Darren MurphFiled under: Storage Don’t worry, you’re not losing it — yet, anyway. Corsair has indeed already launched a 16GB (and 32GB, for that matter) Voyager flash drive, but its forthcoming Voyager GT promises access speeds “up to four times faster” than standard USB 2.0 drives. Furthermore, this one comes housed in a water and shock resistant all-rubber casing, and could be entirely more appealing if that keyring slot were expanded to open bottles. Posted Feb 28th 2008 2:50PM by Paul MillerFiled under: Gaming This one has been in the works for a while, but it looks like you can finally pick up your very own region-free enabler for the Wii for $19.99. Wii FreeLoader allows you to play any GameCube or Wii game from any region on your Wii. You just stick the FreeLoader disc into the console, let it spin up, eject the disc and stick in your title of choice — like Super Smash Bros. Brawl, for instance, or some cooking-related title. Since there’s no hardware modding required, this one theoretically won’t void your warranty, but who’s to say how Nintendo will treat you if you somehow break your Wii with it, and there’s always the fear that Nintendo will hit your Wii with a mandatory software update that breaks FreeLoader, so proceed with caution. Toshiba may have thrown in the towel on its hd dvd standard, but the company seems to have forgotten something. It still have an exclusive deal with DreamWorks to have its movies only distributed in HD DVD. That means that Toshiba may be admitting defeat and that the Blu-ray standard will become the only high-definition DVD standard, but DreamWorks is in a “catch 22.”
Reuters is reporting that DreamWorks and Paramount Pictures signed exclusive deals to offer movies only in the HD DVD format over the next 18 months.

He’s skewered videogame after videogame with his razor-sharp British-turned-Australian wit, done an interview with Geek.com, and gone to the GDC and come back. Now, Yahtzee, our favorite critic, takes on Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.
Unlike many other reviewers who heaped praise on this game, Geek.com was disappointed:
It has so much promise: amazing graphics, great character development, and spot-on action-platforming. If it sticks to this formula, then it’s easily in contention for Game of the Year honors. Unfortunately, it’s woeful as a shooter.
Well, a negative review is one thing; but then Yahtzee takes it up a notch.

Printing experts Toppan and electronics giant Hitachi have collaborated to bring the first hologram-toting IC tag in the world next month, making it all the harder to come up with a counterfeit version without the help of large-scale facilities. It also allows RFID data to be encrypted, making the task to crack it even more challenging than it already is. in addition, the sticker these ICs are rooted to cannot be peeled off a product without having it break into pieces, hence you will be able to tell whether a particular item has been tampered with or not. While this security device will be used in fashionable items and clothing first, I foresee a future in securing medicine batches as well. (Read the full post about ‘Toppan IC Hologram Tag’…)

Camels are not only known for their macho image in the past, but those are some real man’s cigarettes if its advertisements are to be believed. The Cigarette phone hides an actual handset within the ordinary looking box of a Camel pack. It slides open just like how a standard cigarette packet does, and retails for $49 from Custom Phones. Bear in mind this is but a house phone so don’t expect it to perform wonders like send text messages or capture pictures of your hubby having a romp with the maid in bed while you’re at work.

Shoveling snow off your driveway can be quite a pain during winter, and even worse if you don’t have kids whom you can order around (lovingly). Engineer Kevin decided to literally take things into his own hands, putting together this pedal-powered Snowplow by merging together various parts from a riding lawnmower and a bicycle. The blades are constructed out of two different shovels which have been cut and nestled together to form a ‘V’ shape, making it possible to plow through your yard in record time.

Posted Feb 28th 2008 4:03AM by Ryan BlockFiled under: Gaming, HDTV Although Samsung’s billing these plasmas as being “3D ready”, what they mean to say is that they apparently did some tweaking with game mega-developer EA to ensure their two latest 1080p plasmas — in 42 and 50-inch sizes — play games well. The HDMI 1.3, USB, and supposed 1m:1 contrast ratio don’t exactly hurt, either.[Via Akihabara News]Tags: cameras, dvr, plasma, buyers guides (Read the full post about ‘Samsung announces two gamer plasmas for Korea’…)
