Man left with $12k in damages after Circuit City GPS install gone wrong
Posted Mar 31st 2008 11:34AM by Donald MelansonFiled under: GPS, Transportation Installs gone wrong certainly aren’t all that uncommon, but the tale told by one VTECnical of the 8thcivic.com forum is undoubtedly a cut above the rest, and could well have you reconsidering that suction cup option. As VTECnical tells it, he bought a Pioneer AVIC Z2 GPS unit and some other components from Circuit City last July for more $3,000 and decided to let their installers do the installation work for him — apparently after he was told that it’d slide into his Honda Civic without any modifications. The problems then allegedly began when the installer whipped out a heat gun, which was purportedly intended to be used to mold a mounting guide for the GPS unit but instead wound up melting one of the Civic’s heating ducts. Motorola A1600 MING to come with Wi-Fi, GPS
Seemingly official product shots of the still unannounced Motorola A1600 MING have surfaced courtesy of some reliable sources from China. The Motorola A1600 MING is a new addition to Motorola’s not-so-popular MING smart phone lineup, which according to the product page, is the only thing you need. The A1600 MING will feature a 3-megapixel auto focus camera, Linux-based user interface, full stylus-based touch sensitive screen, GPS and Wi-Fi. The Motorola A1600 MING will have basically the same form factor as other MING handsets, featuring a 17.5 mm thickness and transparent protective outer cover. This is despite rumors that it will have a supposedly better CPU than the original Moto A1200 MING. (Read the full post about ‘Motorola A1600 MING to come with Wi-Fi, GPS’…)

I’ve been thinking about the George Foreman Grill a lot lately. Why did it become so popular? It seemed like everyone I knew became an advocate for the thing a few years ago. It was like they suddenly discovered that they could cook food. Couldn’t we always grill food on our stove before? Yes we could. So why did we forget it? One word:

Microwave

Back in the seventies and eighties, we became obsessed with the microwave. It was SO easy and quick to heat up food. We tried to cook EVERYTHING in the microwave.

Casio G’zOne Type-SL

Casio has been pumping out G’zOnes like cray-cray. In a little over a year, the rugged watch maker has updated the phone twice, with the newest iteration being the Type-SL. But we had to wonder — was Casio really improving on its ultra-rugged design, or just rehashing the same phone? To sort this matter out, we had to destroy both our Type-SL and one of our editors.

. . . but we’ll get to that later.

As a whole the Type-SL packs few surprises. Like past iterations of the G’zOne, the Type-SL sports military grade resistance to water, dust, and shock damage.

If Twitter is too fast for you, try dawdlr
I may love Twitter, the site where you have 140 short characters to tell the world what you’re up to, lovers may love Twitter, but I do understand that Twitter’s not for everyone. Some people don’t want to share the details of every thought, meal or bathroom break with the rest of the Internet and find the constantly updated details of other people’s every thought too much to keep up with. If you’re one of these people, allow me to introduce you to the anti-Twitter: dawdlr. As the website puts it, “dawdlr is a global community of friends and strangers answering one simple question: what are you doing, you know, more generally?” Instead of typing in what you’re up to, you send dawdlr a postcard detailing your activities, and some are chosen for the site. Free Adobe “Photoshop Express” Graphics Program
Filed in archive Photoshop by jim on March 31, 2008 If you ever wanted to try one of Adobe's famed "Photoshop" graphics programs here's your chance to test drive their latest "light" version. I have several versions of Adobe Photoshop that I got for free with various printers, scanners and other gizmos that have come and gone over the years and I have a full blown Photoshop program as well. The learning curve is steep, that's for sure, even with some of the simpler versions, but the results are worth the effort. In any event all digital camera owners will want to manipulate their images to some degree so why not give as many graphics programs as possible a whirl, especially when the cost is zero. Steve Jobs Rendered In Apple Products
This portrait of Steve Jobs is made up entirely of Apple products, up to and including the macbook air. Sure, Charis Tsevis’ portrait (a commission for Fortune Magazine) isn’t the most original of approaches, but the combination of the prosaic mosaic and the Soviet propaganda-style photograph seems somehow appropriate for the notorious control-freak Jobs. Bow down before your master. NOW. Huge, full sized image [Flickr via Geekologie] Tags: tests, mobile phone, toys, CD (Read the full post about ‘Steve Jobs Rendered In Apple Products’…)

Nokia N96 with Xenon flash leaked image
Just yesterday, we mentioned that the Nokia N96 will have a Xenon flash. Unfortunately at the time is was based mostly on rumor, so what better way for us to be able to follow that up, with nothing less than a leaked picture of a Nokia N96 with a Xenon flash. While this is far from official confirmation, it certainly seems this rumor has been proven true. Looks like the Nokia N96 excites as it features a generous 2.8-inch QVGA display, impressive stereo speakers, Wi-Fi, HSDPA, and the much awaited Xenon flash, similar to what Nokia N82 currently has.  Now, I’m pretty much convinced that N96 will be worth the wait. So Nokia, when can we finally get our hands on your new baby? (Read the full post about ‘Nokia N96 with Xenon flash leaked image’…)
