Nintendo launches TV Guide Channel in Japan, enables Wiimote to control TV

Because users in the aforementioned nation now have access to an incredibly fascinating new channel and you, well, don’t. Details on the TV Guide Channel are still a bit fuzzy (read: lost in machine translation), but based on what we’ve pieced together, users can surf through shows on the EPG, share their favorites with friends, see how popular a program is (using demographic data, too) and even receive an e-mail / SMS alert 30 minutes prior to a flagged show’s start time. Dell has just released a new rugged laptop known as the Latitude XFR D630. This tough cookie will come with a tough chassis, conforming to the Department of Defense’s rigid MIL-STD 810F specifications. It is capable of functioning even in extreme temperatures, mositure, and altitudes among others, making the possibility of it outlast the owner very real. Solid state drives are supported, while folks who prefer to stick to a traditional hard drive can always rely on the shock-isolated mounting for extra protection. Garmin just announced a quartet of new Nuvi models from its 200 series, and they are known as the “2×5″ series. What’s interesting is traffic from MSN Direct being offered in these devices, allowing users to find their way around in a much more efficient manner without running the danger and frustration of being caught in a massive traffic gridlock. Other faetures include a “shaded elevation mapping display”, a 333MHz processor, a HotFix feature that acquires satellite signals faster and maps of the US (for the 205 and 205W) and Canada (255 and 255W). It was lacking Bluetooth, camera, or WiFi so we weren’t able to see those features of the Opera browser which the mini One will one day happily tout. Still, we had high hopes of seeing just how talented Meizu’s software engineers are at recreating the iphone’s lauded user experience. Well, from the demo we saw, they’ve come pretty close but they’ve got some serious house cleaning to do before the August launch.
