T-Mobile Gets Nokia 3555

T-Mobile Gets Nokia 3555
Those looking for Nokia’s 3555 candybar handset will now be able to get one from T-Mobile. This basic cell phone might not come with a wide range of bells and whistles, but it is said to support T-Mobile’s upcoming 3G network. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be a front-mounted camera that is meant for video calls, so this could be a “modem-only” 3G phone instead. Other features include a rear-mounted digital camera, a microSD memory card slot, Bluetooth connectivity, and instant messaging support. It retails for a mere $150 a pop. Retro Styled Medium Format Stereo Camera
To take a 3D picture, you need two lenses. So what do three lenses get you? Still just 3D, sadly. The Chinese made 3D World is just like an old fashioned TLS (Twin Lens Reflex) camera, with separate lenses for viewing and taking the photograph, only it has an extra lens to put another image on the film. Specs are exactly what you’d expect from a medium format film camera: pedestrian. The top shutter speed is 1/500 sec, it uses decidedly old-school silicone diodes to meter light and everything is proudly manual. And I want one. The 1970s sci-fi aesthetic coupled with that steampunky center cog which keeps the lenses in sync makes this a beautiful, if impractical, gadget. Internet-connected Alarm Clock

Internet-connected Alarm Clock
This is no ordinary alarm clock as it can be hooked up to the Internet. Unlike old-school mechanical alarm clocks that you have to set manually, this Internet-connected alarm clock provides three primary features: automatic time setting on power-up, streaming MP3 music, and remote management. The easy-to-use, PIC24FJ64-based clock is connected to an ENC28J60 Ethernet chip, an MP3 decoder chip for streaming music, an organic LED graphical display, and a 24LC512 EEPROM for storing alarm data, fonts, and images. Gotta love the wooden case it comes in. The fact that wake up times can be automated based on calendar entries makes this a winner in my book. Kiddo Kidkeeper System

Kiddo Kidkeeper System

Kidnappings are pretty common these days, so parents tend to over-worry when it comes to their kids’ whereabouts, which indirectly translates to a more strained relationship as the children themselves feel under pressure and “cornered”, whenever the adults start repeating all the same questions over and over again. Smart Target aims to relieve the pressure cooker environment on both parties with its wireless proximity alarm system that helps boost child safety, assisting parents in locating wayward younglings quickly, while keeping them within a pre-set “virtual fence”. According to Amazon, very soon the much hyped and anxiously anticipated first service pack for Windows Vista will be officially released to the public–perhaps even today. One thing you can guarantee, though. No matter which side of the Vista love or hate fence you are are on, the update servers over at Microsoft will be working overtime pumping out the update when it gets shot out of the gate.

If you are planning, though, to pick up a copy of Vista and want SP1 already built in, Amazon is reporting that copies of Vista with Service Pack 1 will be sold beginning Wednesday March 19.

According to Microsoft, Vista SP1 promises improvements in areas of application and device compatibility, reliability, performance, and security.

One Handed Xbox 360 Controller

One Handed Xbox 360 Controller

The famous Ben Heck has just lifted the veil on its brand new Xbox 360 controller mod that allows you to play your favorite Xbox 360 games with just one hand. Unfortunately, this controller needs a couple of AA batteries to function, so it might end up being heavier than what some people are comfortable with. If the D-Pad that you see here looks familiar, that’s because it has been ported over from the playstation. Apparently Ben Heck is slaving away on a mass-produced version which will be pronouncedly different compared to this model. (Read the full post about ‘One Handed Xbox 360 Controller’…)

Runt may be small, but still packs a wallop

I don’t live in a very large city, so I’m not worried about getting mugged on the street for my ipod or anything. That’s just not something you hear about where I come from. Big cities, however, tend to be a different story, which causes some people to carry stun guns for protection. If you’re looking for something small to carry around, you might be interested in The Runt. While it is as small as the name implies, this little stun gun packs quite a punch. It’s roughly the size of a pager (do people still use those?) and has either 350k, 650k or 950k volts. What’s nice is that these little guys won’t break the bank. You’ll pay $40, $50 or $60 respectively. (Read the full post about ‘Runt may be small, but still packs a wallop’…)

The Intel Netbook; Rumored pics of Intel’s new UMPC
The latest notebook that is rumored to be to hitting the ultra-mobile, or Eee PC competitor market looks like it could be the Intel Netbook. A few pictures have turned up of the new device courtesy of a “buddy that works for a US Based OEM.” The Netbook is said to feature a 9-inch display, 900MHz Celeron processor, 512MB RAM, 40GB hard drive, Wi-Fi, Ethernet and will be running Windows XP. The Netbook also weighs less than three-pounds and has a carrying handle built-in. Rumor has it that the Netbook will be landing in the US around June and be in the ballpark of $400. Of course with all leaked pics, we are left to wonder just how accurate or real they are, based on these blurry, but somewhat nice camera-phone style pics the Netbook does have a nice appearance. 3 Piece Motion-Activated Security System

Here’s an extremely affordable home security system that won’t break the bank - after all, it retails for a mere $14.99! You get two sensors that each operate independently; when motion is detected within 5′, it will sound an alarm for 5 seconds. Gives you a 5-second exit delay after you activate it. You also get a simulated security video camera that has a flashing red LED light, and actually “pans” side to side, to help deter potential intruders. Sensors and camera each have an on/off switch, and require three AA batteries (nine in total; none included). Sensors are each 3″x3-1/4″ tall; extend 2-1/4″ from wall. Samsung announces world’s thinnest 8 megapixel cellphone module
Posted Mar 18th 2008 3:14AM by Thomas RickerFiled under: cellphones, Digital Cameras Measuring just 8.5-mm thin, you’re looking at what Samsung claims to be the slimmest CMOS camera module of its kind. The 8 megapixel module is expected to supplant the 5 megapixel job found in todays top-end cameraphones sometime in the second half of the year. Fortunately, this isn’t just a case of megapixel marketing as the module also features anti-shake, a 1-cm macro, and face tracking technology.
