Mobile Web usage at an all time high, says Google
It’s no secret that mobile web usage is steadily gaining popularity nowadays, especially as more and more companies are working together to bring users a better overall experience while accessing the Internet with their products. The Web’s biggest search company, Google, mentions that there has indeed been a rise in mobile Web use. In a report by Reuters, Google cites that their recently released mobile plug-in software, has largely helped in increasing mobile Web usage. I agree with what Google states, but I think this is really because of the collaborative effort of all companies involved in mobile Internet, including the software developers, as well as the product manufacturers themselves. Canon 5D Update: Fanboy Fantasy or Real Deal?
According to a post on the DP Review forums, Canon will be unveiling the long awaited successor to the EOS 5D in a “surprise announcement” on April 22nd. The 5D will cost $3500 and offer specs which bring it uncomfortably close to Canon’s flagship EOS1Ds MkIII, including a 15.3MP, full frame sensor, weatherproofing and a huge 3″ live-view LCD screen. You can peek the full copy-and-paste of the details below, but the author boxf1, despite quoting “a source I am unwilling to disclose” seems to either have a legitimate leak or has kept his fanboy fantasies on a tight leash: The details sound pretty plausible and Canon has a habit of popping newer tech into the lower-rung models in its range. ColorWare adds life to Nintendo DS Lite
The DS Lite might already come in a variety of shades and colors, but apparently two-tones aren’t enough for ColorWare who allows you to customize exactly how your DS Lite would look like, thanks to an online selection of glossy, scratch resistant finishes. You can even choose a metallic paint option that features sparkling flakes if you’re daring enough. Virtually every part of your DS Lite can be customized, although the final damage to your wallet is more than what you would pay for a second hand DS Lite, as each pimping session will cost you a cool $99. Teardown: What’s Inside The Eye-Fi Card
What you see above is the modern marvel of miniaturization that is the Eye-Fi card. IkonTools tore one apart , just to see what was inside. First, remember that this is a tiny SD card. Second, take a look at section one in the photo. That’s the WiFi radio (number seven is the antenna). For the full, (and dull) rundown on the other components, follow the link. Dell handset rumors continue to swirl
Posted Mar 19th 2008 3:50AM by Thomas RickerFiled under: cellphonesDon’t hide it. We all share the same moment of reflection accompanying any $500+ smartphone purchase: “Man, I could really use a cheap, new Axim right about now.” Say it loud boy, ’cause you might be in luck if DigiTimes’ sources are to be believed. According to the Taiwanese rumor rag, Dell is set to “resume its handheld device business” with a focus on Windows Mobile, not Android as previously rumored (though we’d would be nuts to rule that out). Sources claim that Foxconn (not Quanta) is preparing to accept handset orders from Dell who is busy organizing its handheld device team under Ron Garriques, the executive VP Michael Dell hired away from Motorola’s cellphone division in early 2007. Alienwarez: Bios released to fix overheating Area-51 m15x rigs
Posted Mar 19th 2008 6:56AM by Thomas RickerFiled under: LaptopsDrop those pitchforks m15x owners and prepare to update, Alienware just released a fix to your overheating (and downclocking) problems. A new beta BIOS — X29b P3A30 — features a few tweaks including the ability to spin-up the fan to a new 5400rpm max. So more noise for more speed; sounds like a reasonable trade-off to us. Unfortunately, the new BIOS is only available if you email area51_m15x@alienware.com for a copy. A general release is expected shortly. Until then, however, it looks like all m15x shipments are on hold. Ouch. (Read the full post about ‘Alienwarez: Bios released to fix overheating Area-51 m15x rigs’…)

Swinging Robot Entertains

Posted on: 19, Mar

There is something mesmerizing about watching a primate swing its way across limbs of trees with relative ease, as though they have some sort of spider sense. This robot has been programmed to do the same, although it might not be too suitable for the harsh jungle environment due to its weight. It is, however, able to keep itself in motion simply by moving its whole body. No idea on what algorithm is used to ferry it around, but it is still nice to see a more agile robot around compared to the slowpoke Asimo from Honda.
