LG have launched their new LG-KF510, a designer phone that packs in some pretty top rate features. The features themselves aren’t novel - all phones come with MP3 players, digital cameras, and the life these days - but what the LG-KF510 does is to provide high performing versions of such features in an attractive handset. For example, the digital camera isn’t just a 3 megapixel camera; it’s a 3 megapixel camera with power flash and 1 second response time, meaning you can actually take decent photos in the gloom, as well as taking photos the second you see something interesting happening. The impressive thing about this is that these features are being presented in a designer phone, which traditionally focuses more on looks and less on the quality of the features it offers. Posted Mar 26th 2008 11:48AM by Donald MelansonFiled under: Displays It looks like it’s not only those in Japan that’ll be able to get their hands on what’s purported to be the “industry’s smallest and lightest XGA projector,” with Sanyo now also announcing that its diminutive PLC-XW60 LCD projector will soon be available ’round these parts as well. Most importantly, the price has also received a rather steep cut from the direct Yen to dollar conversion, with it now boasting an MSRP of just $795. That’ll still get you the very same 3.6-pound projector, however, which packs a respectable 2,000 lumens of brightness, a 400:1 contrast ratio, component, composite and VGA inputs, and, last but not least, a built-in 1 watt mono speaker. Thinnest, smallest, fastest. The modern gadget market continues the Olympic ideals of Citius, Altius, Fortius (look it up). Like the MacBook Air, the innovative Israeli Modu cellphone now has a class-leading claim, although unlike the Air, Modu’s achievement is backed up by the Guiness Book of Records. Modu emailed today to tell us the good news: Modu has been awarded the Guinness World Record for the worlds lightest cell phone. Modu checks in at an incredible 1.41oz (or 40.1g) Just how light is that? (Read the full post about ‘Modu Is The World’s Lightest Cellphone’…)
An interview in German newspaper Franfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (not English) with Sony BMG CEO Rolf Schmidt-Holtz, has added fuel to the fire that the music company is setting up its own digital music service.
There have already been reports of music publishers teaming up for a digital music service called Total Music, but Schmidt-Holtz’s comments in the newspaper suggest this may not end up being the case. He said Sony BMG is looking into its own music service, but would not give a timetable for when it would come online.

Motorola has announced that it will split into a couple of publicly traded entities in order to separate its loss-making handset division from its other businesses. This news has been received positively by investors, seeing the Motorola share price soaring more than 10%. Hopefully the cellular business from Motorola will not shut down, as having healthy competition is always good for the consumers since it keeps companies on their toes all the time and not to take the customer for granted by monopolizing an entire industry. A quiet buzz is going around this morning after word of iPhone shortages are cropping up in NYC Apple stores. Some sites are questioning if this is the sell-down prior to intro of the iPhone 2.0, as this method is right out of the Apple play book. We see it with just about every ipod introduction. The buzz builds with Digg founder Kevin Rose predicting iPhone 2.0 will have GPS and dual cameras. Hmmm, his predictions have not always come to fruition. Could a surprise introduction be happening next Tuesday? (Read the full post about ‘Breaking: iPhone 2.0 “on the water”?’…)

I might be missing something, but Callpod’s Drone, a USB VOiP and music streaming dongle, doesn’t seem to offer anything a Bluetooth equipped computer doesn’t have already, other than a few remote control options with an optional software install. Plug it in and you can wander around with a Bluetooth headset, either making Skype (or other VOiP client) calls or listening to music via the A2DP protocol. The range is claimed to be 100 meters, and pairing with a Mac or PC is automatic. The Drone will be available for an as-yet unnamed price in May. If you don’t already have Bluetooth in your computer, it might be worth it. It might also be time to buy a new PC. Product page [Callpod. Posted Mar 26th 2008 1:32AM by Joshua TopolskyFiled under: Robots Finally, a robot that “gets” us. Researchers at Toshiba in Japan have created a talking bot that can be used as a voice-activated universal remote in addition to formulating plots about terminating humans. The 5-pound, 11-inch-tall android is called ApriPoko, and is capable of learning how to control electronics by watching you and asking questions about your behavior. When you use an infrared device, the robot senses the signal and asks the user “What did you just do?” If you say something akin to “I turned on the TV,” it will commit the command to memory, and you can operate those functions by voice. The Modu Mini phone has now reached an official status of “the lightest mobile phone in the world”. It weighs a puny 1.4 ounces and measures just .3 inches thick. The record was recorded by the Guinness book of world records. The Modu Mini Phone is a gadget which acts as the core of a mobile phone and can work as a standalone device. The interesting thing is that the Modu also acts as a core of other “jackets” which can expand the functionality of the phone to make it in to a gaming phone, smartphone or music phone. Expect to see the Modu later on this year or early next year. Source - Fosfor Guest Post by Matthew of Gadget Venue. (Read the full post about ‘Worlds Lightest Phone’…)
