Google UK turned the lights out for Earth Hour
Today Google.co.uk has “turned the lights out” in an effort to help save energy. While making the background black doesn’t really save energy since modern displays, regardless of the display, also use the same amount of power, Google did this to openly participate in the Earth Hour campaign. The Earth Hour invites people from all over the world to turn their lights off today, March 29, at least for an hour, between 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Energy conservation is what the Earth Hour organization wants to happen. To help spread the awareness, Google UK decided to go “black” for a greener environment. South Korean police aiming to equip all new handsets with GPS?
Posted Mar 29th 2008 12:40PM by Darren MurphFiled under: cellphones, GPS Taking a note from Japan, it’s being reported that South Korean police are backing a highly controversial plan that would equip each new mobile sold in the nation with a GPS chip. Reportedly, Song Kang-ho, chief of the investigation bureau of the National Police Agency, has stated that the government has “already submitted a related bill to the National Assembly,” and the general idea here is to crack down on the rise of kidnapping and various other crimes against children and women. Dell Inspiron 1525 to feature Blu-ray for only $879
Dell’s new Inspiron 1525 laptop combines a Blu-ray combo drive with affordability at an asking price of $879. The 1.82GHz Core 2 Duo processor is plenty powerful enough, and features a 15.4-inch display with a 720p resolution and HDMI out. It also comes standard with 1GB of RAM and a 80GB hard drive. With such a low asking price, some features have to be sacrificed, for example if you want to bump the Blu-ray player up to a burner, be prepared to fork out another $200. All things considered, its a very good price for a Blu-ray capable laptop. Dell Inspiron 1525 dives into Blu-ray market

Goodbye hd dvd, hello Blu-ray. Standalone Blu-ray players used to cost a bomb (some of them still do, which was what made the Sony PS3 all the more attractive if you were looking for a firmware upgradeable Blu-ray player instead of a gaming machine first), and laptops that came with Blu-ray drives actually required you to sell off a kidney in order to own one. With the pseudo format wars behind them and Blu-ray emerging the victor in their tussle with Toshiba’s HD DVD, it is easier for companies to make a commitment as to include the winning format’s technology into their products. Take Dell, for example. (Read the full post about ‘Dell Inspiron 1525 dives into Blu-ray market’…)

Canadians are getting antsy about not having an iPhone yet. It’s a question with some history, wrapped up in local trademark concerns and Apple’s easy-does-it approach to internationalizing its iPodification of phones. Black & Silver, new colors for the rugged Verizon G’zOne
We first saw Verizon announce the rugged G’zOne Type-S Series back in June of last year, but at the time it was only available in black. The main feature of the phone was its ability to last in really bad conditions. While the features remain the same, the G’zOne now sports a shiny black and silver exterior. Along with the new color is a lower price, just $80 after an ‘online discount’ along with a two-year contract. If you are the type to go rough on your phones, this may be a good model to consider. Posted Mar 29th 2008 7:44AM by Darren MurphFiled under: Home Entertainment, Media PCs Those on the hunt for a pre-fabricated HTPC can’t complain about a lack of choices these days, but if you’ve yet to be taken aback by anything out there, why not give Mesiro’s Merium a glance? The standout feature here isn’t the 1.66GHz Core 2 Duo T5500 processor, 250GB internal HDD, dual-layer DVD burner, GMA950 graphics accelerator, WiFi, 5-in-1 multicard reader or the bundled MCE remote — oh no, it’s the interchangeable chassis covers (weird, right?). Yep, you can swap out the covers on this rig whenever you feel the urge, ensuring that there’s a case for every occasion. Microsoft to release Windows XP SP3 this April
Microsoft will soon be releasing Service Pack 3 for Windows XP. How soon is soon? Reports have it coming as early as April and will be released in two groups. Service Pack 3 (SP3) will come first for those users with the Simplified English, Chinese, French, Korean, Spanish, and Korean versions with any remaining versions to follow about 3-weeks later. Microsoft has also confirmed that SP3 for Windows XP Media Center and Windows XP Tablet Edition will not be available as an integrated version, meaning those users will only be available to update to SP3 using Windows Update. Its also safe to say that this will be that last major update Microsoft will push out before they stop selling XP this June.
