by Paul Miller, posted Apr 11th 2008 at 3:21AM See, now we’re torn. Do we spend our imaginary rainbow dollars on that Real Crystal LED Watch concept we saw the other day, or do we pretend like we could ever scrap together enough pennies to afford this very real De Grisogono Meccanico DG timepiece? The watch is apparently the first all-mechanical digital watch — no LED trickery here — and is sure to cost a fortune. Gadget retailers beware — the FCC is throwin’ out techs likes an NBA ref. The AP reports that Wal-Mart, Best Buy, and other retailers recently amassed $3.9 million in fines for not properly labeling analog-only televisions. The move is part of the FCC’s efforts to ensure retailers are adequately preparing consumers for the digital television switch due February 18th, 2009. For its recent raid the FCC hit up 2,272 retail stores and 36 web sites to flush out the 349 citations. Of the retailers, Sears Holding Corp. got it worst. Between analog TV labeling infractions on its web sites, in 15 Sears stores, and found in 20 Kmart locations, the company is looking at close to $1 million in fines. Denon ASD3W Wireless ipod network dock The Denon ASD3W is the perfect way to simplify your media collection. Rather than having some of you music on your computer, some of your music on your iPod, some of your music on CDs, and some of your music in your home theater system, keep it all connected. The ASD3W connects to a computer via either a Wi-Fi connection or an ethernet cable to transmit music from your computer to your home audio set-up, or it can charge Apple iPods while playing media from them. The ASD3N is the perfect to get your music (or even photos and videos) organized. (Read the full post about ‘Denon ASD3W Wireless iPod network dock’…)

Lithium-ion batteries have kept gadget lovers on their toes for years with their occasionally combustive ways. Now, researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute for Silicate Research in Würzburg, Germany think they’ve solved this problem by successfully swapping the liquid electrolyte (the flammable stuff) used in conventional lithium-ion batteries with a non-combustible alternative. “We have succeeded in replacing the inflammable organic electrolytes with a non-flammable polymer that retains its shape,” ISC team leader Dr. Kai-Christian Möller in a statement earlier this week. “This considerably enhances the safety of lithium-ion batteries,” he continued. Our cat knows better than to step on or try to sleep on our computer keyboards, but boy does she love to position herself riiight next to them so that some of her fur and extra chub “accidentally” cover a few keys. Coupled with her strange habit of rubbing her face against the sides and corners of monitors and notebook screens, she certainly does her part in encouraging us to procrastinate and “finish up tomorrow.” She’s too adorable and squishy to ignore or scold, of course, so it’s obviously out of everyone’s control. The only solution? The Kit-In Box wooden pet bed. Suitable for pets up to 20 pounds, the solid pine bed clamps onto the straight edge of a desk and lets Miss Kitty do several of her favorite things at once: perch, sleep, curl up, nest, and be with you. Toshiba has started shipping its new 14.1-inch Satellite M300 laptop. With a retail price starting at $949.99, users can choose between the M300-S4822 or the M300-S4826. With the slew of new laptops recently launched by Toshiba, I’m beginning to believe that it is the company’s way of introducing its Fusion finish that is bonded directly into the chassis of the laptops. Like the previous models recently released by Toshiba, the Satellite M300 also features the Sleep-and-Charge USB ports and the LED-illuminated “Feather Touch” multimedia command keys. In addition, the Satellite M300 series laptops also feature Harman Kardon speakers and makes use of Dolby Sound Room technology, built-in webcam with facial recognition software, and DVD/Super Multi drive. NetBlender has released a new application that enables your iPhone to talk to your Blu-ray player through a WiFi connection, turning your iPhone into a fancy looking remote control. I must say, the creative use of Apple’s phenomenal handset is definitely intriguing as developers could learn to build applications that will leverage data from a Blu-ray player, constructing an iTunes-like catalog of movies right onto the iPhone while offering title recommendations. In addition, there exists the possibility of sending movies straight from disk to the iphone. Hmm, now there’s yet another compelling reason to add to the existing 3,951 others to get an iPhone.
