MSI first unveiled the Wind during CeBIT and its now looking like a release will be happening a little sooner than later. They are expected to launch during Q2 2008, and be priced between $470 and $1,099 depending on configuration. The notebooks are going to offer an 8.9- or 10-inch displays along with options for a traditional hard drive or an SSD drive. Overall they seem to be similar specs as some of the other ultra-portables that have been hitting the market lately. Hopefully some more firm details will come out, giving us a little better idea of what to expect when the Wind arrives. Via [DigiTimes] Keep up with the latest gadget goodness! gadgets made for the Apple player are always popping up, that is why Coolest Gadgets has over 250 posts on the ipod Gadgets category, right? This special light is just another item on that big list, but at least it is original and has useful functions.
Priced at $100, the Entertainment Light is also known as E-light and can be used indoors, or outdoors. If you pick the outside, consider using it with an umbrella pole, but if chose the inside (of your house) just use it “normally”.
So, why is the E-light so special?
I don’t have any little kids in my house, so when one comes to visit, I’m often at a loss for how to entertain my guest, as I have no toys lying about. My repertoire of Origami cranes and inflatable cubes exhausts itself in about twenty minutes.
I’ve bookmarked this page of Fractalspin for the next time I find myself in this dilemma. The Mandlebot Paper Toy is a foldable robot that you print out on your own printer, then spend the next hour folding in accordance with the instructions.

The modern day equivalent of the baby “brag book,” the pint-sized digital photo viewers that can be worn on a keychain, have come a long way since their introduction. The new Digital Foci Pocket Album holds upto 74 digital photos, with 8 MB internal flash memory; has up to 9 hours of battery life; can run automatic slideshows or scoll photos manually, has an LCD contrast adjustable for choosing the best viewing angle; and includes sofware to convert JPG and BMG images from your computer to the Pocket Album. (That means you’ll still need to help Grandma set it up.) Still, it is one of the easier digital photo albums I’ve tired — the software automatically resizes for optimal storage and display on the digital keychain. I have seen the future of television, and it is VideoClix. If you haven’t tried the wonder that is Clickable Video yet, just go over to the VideoClix site and watch the first few minutes of an episode of HBO’s Entourage. VideoClix technology allows the user to watch a video and click on certain images for more information. For example, I clicked on one of the actors, and an information window gave me a description of his character. I clicked on the bowling shirt the actor was wearing, and I found out where I could buy it from. I clicked on the car the actor was in, and I saw the make and model. I clicked on the scenery the car was parked in front of, and I got information about the Grand Canyon! ConnectVu is a CCTV system which allows you to monitor video from CCTV cameras on your mobile. If your mobile phone is capable of GPRS, GSM or 3G then you will be able to access, and control the CCTV cameras over the air. The software is Java, so a compatible phone would have to be used. By moving control of the CCTV cameras to your mobile phone, it allows you to track security where ever you are. The software on the phone allows you to switch between 16 different cameras and control where the cameras are pointing to allow you to get a better shot of who is breaking in to your premises. The ConnectVu system can support up to four video cameras per capture card, and the system can use 4 capture cards making a total of 16 cameras being supported. An idea as simple as the NapTV deserves a similarly simple description, which is exactly what designer Sung-kyu Nam has done. These are the only words accompanying the pictures of his concept: NapTV has a new concept about TV & Chair. You can sit on NapTV and also watch TV lying on the floor. The stool hides a screen and stereo speakers on the underside so you can lie down with your head inside. That’s right. You can watch a movie even if you are too tired to remain upright. All that is required is a single open eye. This, my friends, is a bachelor’s dream. You can literally drink yourself under the table and then fall asleep watching your choice of smut. It even comes with a remote control. (Read the full post about ‘NapTV Splices Stool And Screen’…)

How many devices in your home take AA or AAA batteries? I shudder at the thought of actually counting up the number in my house, but I can tell you it’s a lot. Most of the power-hungry gadgets have rechargeable batteries in them, while things like TV and DVD remotes have the less expensive throwaway kind. With this many batteries, I have three different chargers throughout the house. One thing I haven’t considered is keeping a battery charger in my laptop case. I do carry a wireless mouse that uses AA batteries, so it would make sense to carry a charger. However, I really don’t like putting anything more in my bag than is absolutely necessary. Blockbuster isn’t content with putting a set-top box in your living room. The brick-and-mortar rental giant wants your nearest Circuit City too. According to the AP, Blockbuster is now publicizing its unsolicited $1 billion bid for the No. 2 electronics retailer. It’s no coincidence that this is all going public now. Blockbuster quietly sent the bid to Circuit City back in February, but after receiving no definitive response, company executives decided to turn up the heat by making the offer public. In all fairness, it’s not too bad of a deal either; at roughly $1 billion, Circuit City shareholders would receive a 25 percent premium for their holdings. As for Blockbuster’s ultimate gambit? Toshiba has added a new notebook to its product catalog, the Portege R500-12Q. The new Toshiba notebook is being touted by the company as the world’s lightest notebook weighing just a mere 2.15-pounds (by standard notebook weight, which pretty much is light indeed). Toshiba is also brandishing the Portege R500-12Q as the only notebook with the slimmest optical drive at 7mm, the world’s first notebook with the transflective LED 12.1-inch widescreen display and one of the world’s thinnest notebooks at 0.76/1.0-inches in height.
Aside from being the first in so many notebook aspects, it will be important to note the Portege R500-12Q is packed with a whooping 128GB SSD.
