Imagine yourself going round your everyday routine without anybody disturbing you, just the way you like it, because you have an angry-faced tatto on your right cheek. The programmable tattoo concept by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute constitutes embedding a display below the epidermis of the skin, so that the “tattoo” would show on one’s skin. Nanotube-infused polymers are used as a”ink” which could be used to project display which you can change through the use of a display driver which gets the signal from a Wi-Fi network. This means that, in time, we could be walking social networking pages, complete with a “mood theme” on our cheeks, and a short bio written on another part of our body. by Donald Melanson, posted Apr 22nd 2008 at 4:37PM It’s far from the only strength-boosting exoskeleton out there, but Honda’s so-called “walking assist device” is one of the few that you can actually take for a test spin — if you happen to be attending the Barrier Free 2008 trade show in Osaka, Japan next week, that is. Apparently employing some of the same technology developed by Honda for its ASIMO robot, the walking assistant is able to obtain information from hip angle sensors to help keep its wearer upright, with the device’s motors also able to increase the wearer’s natural stride. Almost all tape measures are pretty normal, meaning they are old-school, but that is when the this Voice Recording Tape Measure joins the party. As the name suggests, you can do a couple of voice recordings while measuring stuff, so there is no need for the pen + paper combo. The only problem seems to be the (small) memory that can only hold 20 seconds of audio content. To help you out doing exact measurements, there is a LED light located in front of the device. It works with 4 LR44 batteries, which are included in the price - 10. (Read the full post about ‘Voice Recording Tape Measure’…)

T-Mobile is running a campaign to get more people to switch over to paperless billing to help be more “green”. T-Mobile is partnering with The Arbor Day Foundation and will be planting at least 150,000 trees in honor of those of you who choose to go with paperless billing. Not only are you saving trees, but you’re helping plant them! If you want to switch over to paperless billing and stop clogging up your mailbox, head over to my.t-mobile.com/plantatree before things end on April 25th. If you’re a smart one and already on the paperless billing bus, just jump over there and confirm that you want T-Mo to plant a tree in your honor. The Dutch have decided to lift their ban on the Segway. Ever since its launch in 2001, the self-balancing nerd-mobile has been outlawed in Holland due to concerns of safety. Now, though, Woz-wannabees can cruise on roads and cycle-paths at up to 25 kph (16mph) and disabled users can roll down sidewalks at a maximum of 6kph (4mph). Users will need to be over sixteen and carrying vehicle insurance, and there may also be a requirement for license plates. It’s odd that the normally permissive Dutch took such exception to the harmless Segway. It’s easy to drive and almost impossible to fall off: Perfect for a trip home from the local coffee shop. The Sci-Fi channel’s gadget blog, Dvice is running a great article on how you can be ‘greener’ without spending a ton of money. Many of the 10 entries almost deserve their own write-up and we plan to do just that. Among the top 10 are suggestions like putting an end to junk mail, using reusable shopping bags, riding shared vans and/or carpooling, e-cycling (c’mon geeks!), and even using your urine as a fertilizer for your plants. While I hardly consider myself a fanatic when it comes to the environment, each passing day has me feeling that we’re going to experience some really horrible things on our planet, not that those things aren’t happening already, but it’s not something that gets quite enough media attention and so it’s not high enough in the public’s awareness (yet). Tight living quarters? Are your cables a conundrum of craziness? Or, do you simply wonder if your pooches or pesky cat might chew through a few precious items while you’re away? We’ve featured a number of cable and phone charger organizers, but this one is perfect for your computer and a few of its precious parts. While I won’t recommend a lot of things from Ikea (for some reason nearly everything I’ve purchased combusted early on – likely a personal problem) I do recommend Ikea’s PS Laptop Workstation. The sorkstation allows you easy access to your modem, router, and cables, while providing you with a small workspace and a place to lock up your laptop (up to 17”) as it charges. It looks like a 10-inch version of the Asus Eee PC will be coming our way later this year. None other than Asustek CEO Jerry Shen stated they are already working on a new Eee PC with a larger display. “The feedback we’ve received from users has been great. Many have asked us for bigger screens and better usability. That’s what made us start developing the Eee PC 900. People are asking for bigger keypads and more software as well, issues the company continues to work on,” said Mr. Shen. Shen also said that Asustek will probably stop upgrading the display screen of the Eee PC after they have released the 10-inch version, and that any display bigger than 10-inches shall no longer be called an Eee PC.
