Apple Store Employees To Get New, More Embarrasing Uniforms
Over at Boing Boing gadgets, wordsmith and ex-Wired blogger John Brownlee has committed to pixels possibly the best rant ever written. What’s got his goat? The new T-Shirts for Apple store employees, worst of which is reserved for the Genuises and reads “Not all heroes wear capes”. There’s a lot of things Apple Store employees could do to be more likable, the first of which would be to stop wearing their own o-rings as moist, elastic turtlenecks and realize that working for $10 an hour rebooting iPods for a living does not make you a member of the cultural elite. It actually gets better from there. Go read it. Now. SlingPlayer Mobile updated for all types except Palm
Looking to keep its promise of delivering newer versions of its SlingPlayer Mobile software, Sling Media has made updates available for download on their web site today. And not only did they update three currently existing versions of their software client, but they also added support for a few new devices, namely the Nokia N95 8GB, the Treo 500v, and the Samsung i760. Streaming has also been optimized on select handsets, and one such is the Sprint Mogul. Interestingly enough, though, the SlingPlayer Mobile software client on the Palm OS has not been upgraded yet like the other clients. To download the latest version of SlingPlayer Mobile, all you have to do is log on to Sling Media’s web site and click on the appropriate links. It ain’t as sexy, but Lenovo’s ThinkPad X300 certainly puts the MacBook Air to shame when it comes to connectivity. I’m not sure who’s responsible for this particular send-up of the manila envelope Air ad, but I do know Gadget Lab reviewer Christopher Null would approve of its message.

Fake Steve, on the other hand, is not amused:

Whatevs.

Sony SRSZX1 2.0 Speaker System

Posted on: 30, Apr

Sony SRSZX1 2.0 Speaker System
Sony’s SRSZX1 2.0 Speaker System targets the average desktop computer that does not need tubthumping bass, but claims to entertain people with “an enriched sound range and fuller bass sound reproduction”. Meant for casual use where PC gaming, audio and DVD playback are concerned. It comes in an aluminum finish and is accompanied by a compact wireless remote controller. Technological advances include Mobius Duct technology which ‘minimizes wind noise’, Turbo Shift technology for extended bass range and a Sigma-Type magnetic circuit for upgraded sound reproduction. There is no word on pricing, but it shouldn’t be too expensive. (Read the full post about ‘Sony SRSZX1 2.0 Speaker System’…)

Review: Freakishly Slim Mouse Goes Where Other Peripherals Can’t
Kensington SlimBlade Trackball MouseNo, the SlimBlade is not some vampire movie with Wesley Snipes (he’s going to jail anyhow) but this aerodynamic, sleekly designed, periphreal is decidedly sharp. It’s also a tad schizoid. And that’s a good thing. What I am crazy about is that with the touch of a button on top of this mini-sized travel mouse its smooth-gliding scroll wheel transforms into a responsive trackball. Finally there’s a pointing device for your notebook that works in tight spaces – you know, like the miniscule drop-down tables on airplanes — and is as comfortable to use as the larger desktop mice I’m more accustomed to. Get A Great Deal On A Slightly Old New Camera
Filed in archive Tip by jim on April 30, 2008 New models of anything, cars, cameras, appliances, and computers, e.g. are always appealing and hold the promise of better performance. Usually that is the case, but sometimes the new isn't any better than the old, and many times the old is still able to hold its head up among the newest competition. If you need or simply want a new digital camera and your budget is limited, or you simply don't want to spend more than X amount of dollars, and it's not enough to buy the latest gee-whiz digital camera, try this. Check out the previous models and research those that appeal to you. (Read the full post about ‘Get A Great Deal On A Slightly Old New Camera’…)

FC Mobile handheld for original NES gaming fun
Oh, man, my husband will never let me live this one down. Nearly an entire drawer in our spare-room dresser, you see, has been home to an original Nintendo console and a stack of 8-bit game cartridges he picked up several years ago for no apparent reason other than the fact that he saw it at a store. He’s always been adamant about keeping the retro set, Duck Hunt gun and all, and now I finally know why. He’s been waiting for this crazy-looking FC Mobile portable game system to hit the market. Designed for those enormous NES cartridges that often required a little “blowing into” to work properly when I was a kid, the handheld is equipped with a 2.4-inch color display, runs on three AA batteries, and can even hook up to a TV for big-screen playback (you know, to make the most of those awesome graphics). Will RIM offer touch screen?

Posted on: 30, Apr

A lot of consumers may have been excited when Apple finally launched the hyped iPhone. There was one group that wasn’t too thrilled about it. That would be the folks over at Research In Motion (RIM). Research In Motion is the manufacturer of BlackBerry handhelds and RIM also provides the service and software related to supporting the BlackBerry.

RIM instantly found their niche when it came to the business market. The ability to instantly receive and send emails was very attractive to enterprises. Of course, RIM’s blackberry business really picked up when they began to market to individual consumers.
