Idea of a Clock II

Posted on: 29, Apr

Idea of a Clock II
There is a very good reason why clocks and watches tell time in the simplest manner possible - through the use of hands or numbers. After all, trying to decipher a long sentence might even have you end up making a mistake, which is why the Singaporean-designed Idea of a Clock II isn’t such a good idea. Sure, it is thought provocating, but does it really deliver in terms of practicality? Take, for example, the time of 12:29 - it will show up on its green LED bulletin board, “This is the idea of a clock that tells you the time using words at exactly twenty-nine minutes past twelve”. What a mouthful! I think I’ll pass, but if you’re adamant on picking up this limited edition timepiece, do send the artist a holler. (Read the full post about ‘Idea of a Clock II’…)

Foxconn wins 3G iPhone contract, 3 million units shipping in June?
by Thomas Ricker, posted Apr 28th 2008 at 6:59AM var Need more unsubstantiated evidence that the 3G iPhone is near. Good, the Chinese language Commercial Times is quoting sources claiming that Foxconn (aka, Hon Hai) — the maker of the 1st gen iphone — is ramping up 3G iPhone assembly by “the end of May” to ship 3 million units in June. It’s expected to produce some 24-25 million units before the product reaches end of life. (Read the full post about ‘Foxconn wins 3G iPhone contract, 3 million units shipping in June?’…)

Omron Announces XF3A

Omron Announces XF3A
Omron’s newly announced XF3A is an ultra-slim 0.6-mm connector for FPCs (Flexible Printed Circuits) which will be available for purchase sometime this summer. Boasting an ultra-low profile, you also get a pitch of 0.3 mm, a height of 0.6 mm and a depth of 3.8 mm (when locked), which makes up for a stunning 33% reduction compared to previous Omron models. Somehow typing ‘Omron’ too many times often leads me to read it as ‘Moron’, but I digress. When available for purchase, the XF3A can pride itself in being the industry’s slimmest commercially available FPC connector with a backlock mechanism. Planex DigiJuke NAS snags YouTube and BitTorrent video — jams it down the Wii, Xbox 360, iPod… and throat of MPAA
by Thomas Ricker, posted Apr 28th 2008 at 3:01AMHere it is copyright bandits, the single biggest reason (besides silicone) to make a Hollywood studio notice you: the MZK-NAS02SG1T network attached storage device from Planex. The main selling point behind the ¥54,799 (about $524) 1TB Gigabit Ethernet block is the claim to “universal access” for all your devices. That little trick comes courtesy of its DigiJuke browser for searching and tagging the BitTorrent and YouTube content you want downloaded in the appropriate PSP and ipod (MPEG-4), Wii (FLV), or TV (MPEG-2) format for in-home or on-the-go viewing. The NAS also streams audio and video to your iTunes laptops or desktops, DLNA TV, Xbox 360, or other compliant device in the home. The Falcon Northwest FragBox 8500 has undergone rigorous testing from the folks at PC Mag, and here’s their take on it. All things considered, naming the Falcon Northwest FragBox 8500 the new Editors’ Choice in this category was a no-brainer. Most important, you can play Crysis on it. It’s the system to buy right now if you’re interested in a Wolfdale-powered gaming PC but don’t want to break into the $3,000-plus stratosphere. You’ll be paying a bit more than budget gamers for performance and portability, but you won’t regret it. The FragBox is here to kick ass. Let it be your opponent’s. Nino AS Inhaler Concept
Diabetes is no laughing matter, as one constantly has to watch their diet while monitoring glucose levels in their blood is a painful affair (for some). Designer Sascha Morawetz has dreamed up of a couple of Diabetic tools which ought to make diabetes a less painful affair. First off we have the inhaler known as Nino AS, which is used to generate an insulin aerosol while replacing the common insulin pen. As for thebloodless glucose measurement system known as the Ninos GL, this functions as a diary and works great when collecting statistics for optimizing therapy. Looks more like a cell phone if you ask me though. Tags: video games, laptops, cameras, CD (Read the full post about ‘Nino AS Inhaler Concept’…)

Weekend Washbag - For Him
Weekend Washbag - For Him I’ve never done it myself, of course, but crashing out on the floor of a chum’s flat can be a soul-destroying experience, particularly if it’s on a school night and you find yourself facing a slog to work the next morning, unshaven, unkempt and reeking of stale cider.
