Two weeks ago Sega announced that it’s Racing Studio based in Birmingham, England was being closed down. The studio had released the well-received Sega Rally and was working on unannounced projects when the decision was made.
Now there is some good news for the staff who worked at the studio. Codemasters, another UK development house with a pedigree for racing games, has bought the studio.
Rod Cousens, chief executive of Codemasters commented:
In seizing this opportunity, we have created additional resources to escalate our plans in the racing segment … We hope to welcome more than 40 people to the company and we have enjoyed the full co-operation of our friends at Sega in making this happen.

For those owners of the HTC Touch on Alltel who’s been just dying for the Rev. A EVDO update (and I mean, come on, who hasn’t?), your day has finally come. The already sleek Touch now has Rev. A EVDO capabilities for your browsing please. Rev. A introduces lower latency and higher upload speeds, along with a minor bump in download speeds. This makes applications like Skype or other VoIP/time-critical applications more feasible. The update also contains patches for Bluetooth connectivity issues in some wireless headsets and pairing with devices. Word of warning though: If you attempt to use this update on a non-Alltel Touch, you will brick your phone. (Read the full post about ‘Alltel updates the Touch, adds Rev. A EVDO support’…)

by Darren Murph, posted Apr 27th 2008 at 7:06AM Talk about escaping the label of vaporware by this much. We’ve been hearing that holographic storage was right around the bend from InPhase for well over three years now, but it has finally managed to get its ducks in a row and should start shipping the unicorn-like Tapestry 300r next month. The firm had a demonstrative version on display at NAB Show earlier this month, and apparently real live working units will be making their way out to archival junkies in just weeks. If you’re a laptop-toting AT&T internet customer, your trips to Starbucks are about to get cheaper: AT&T is rolling out Wi-Fi access at more than 7,000 Starbucks locations around the U.S. The service, unlike the T-Mobile Wi-Fi currently available in most Starbucks stores, will be free to "qualifying" AT&T broadband customers. "Qualifying" means customers who subscribe to the company’s higher-speed residential broadband service, small business broadband packages, and AT&T U-Verse packages. by Darren Murph, posted Apr 26th 2008 at 2:37PMAlthough Brent Hatch’s homegrown solar-electric whip looks eerily similar (read: just as ugly) to the SUNN solar car kit, this one was actually created without the help of any pre-packaged parts or sophisticated schematics. After his gas bill rose well over $700 a month (he and his wife have seven kids, after all), he decided to purchase a rather unsightly eight-seater bicycle and figure out a way to enable roof-mounted solar panels to power an electric motor. Nah, the top speed isn’t very impressive, and you certainly wouldn’t want to head out on I-5 with it, but it sure makes picking up the offspring from their nearby school a whole lot less painful on the wallet. by Darren Murph, posted Apr 25th 2008 at 5:00PM Got yourself an Archos TV+? How’s about a WiFi-enabled 605 / 705 PMP? Even if you’re sadly answering “no” to the latter question, folks with a Windows or Windows Mobile-based machine can still get in on the placeshifting action, as Archos has just announced a swank new TV+ plug-in that brings Slingbox capabilities to those devices. The May-bound TVportation application, which will be available gratis for those who register their Archos TV+ on the firm’s website (it’s $49.99 otherwise), simply enables users to control their set-top-box from anywhere where WiFi is accessible, giving users the ability to watch live TV on their handheld. Summer is coming soon, so it makes perfect sense that the mercury is going to shoot up pretty soon with everyone opting for thinner cotton shirts. The USB Flower Fan provides some much needed relief, drawing power from your computer’s USB port in order to power the USB Flower Fan. Alternatively, if you aren’t in the vicinity of a USB port, there is always the option to use a trio of AAA batteries instead. The blades are made out of plastic for your safety, and despite that, it is able to generate a pretty strong breeze to help you cool down. The USB Flower Fan retails for $11.50 a pop.
