Oregon Scientific intros weather-forecasting Meteo watch
Oregon Scientific managed to pique our interest with its proximity-sensing Weather In Motion clock, and it now looks like it’s got the solution for anyone that wishes they could take it with ‘em wherever they go, with the company set to release its new Meteo weather forecasting watch. While the need for a proximity sensor is obviously eliminated this time around, the watch apparently boasts the same weather information in icon-form as its desk-based companion, along with your usual time-telling, stop watch and alarm features. Look for this one to set you back £40 (or about $80) when it’s released next month. (Read the full post about ‘Oregon Scientific intros weather-forecasting Meteo watch’…)

Cassette MP3 player works with your old tape deck
I honestly can’t say that I miss the cassette tape one bit. Sure, I didn’t have a ton of time to really enjoy the format before CDs took over, but anything that you have to rewind isn’t very much fun. Some people still have fond memories of those little plastic cassettes, and want to show off their love. This Cassette mp3 player is perfect for such people. All you need to do is pop in an SD card loaded with your favorite tracks, and you’re ready to go. It may seem like just a novel case for an otherwise boring MP3 player, however, it does have one trick hidden up its sleeve. Acer, E-Ten team up to deliver smartphones by year’s end
Acer’s acquisition of Asian smartphone maker E-Ten has put them in a position to start manufacturing their own smartphones very soon. And they will, as confirmed by Acer President Gianfranco Lanci, saying that their company will release its first Windows Mobile powered smartphone by the end of this year or early next year. They’ll be focusing entirely on smartphones now, though, shifting away from E-Ten’s tradition of making PDA’s. And if E-Ten’s previous products are any indication of what this team up will be able to produce in the future, then we’re all in for a lot of suspense. iphone killer, anyone? iriver E100 sheds speakers, goes aluminum then returns as the E150, E200
The popular iriver PMP, the E100, is set to undergo a makeover and should return as a brand new player, either the E150 or the E200. One of the main differences that you will notice between the E100 and the new version, is the difference in the exterior. It will lose the plastic, and return with a nicer aluminum outside, something reminiscent of the silver ipod Nano. Upon turning on the device, you will also notice the LCD screen to be much brighter and better than the original. Another notable difference, which you may like, or may not, is that the E100 is going to lose the two miniature speakers located on the back of the device. CompUSA rises from dead, attacks Florida
by Nilay Patel, posted Apr 24th 2008 at 9:04PM CompUSA died a sputtering, inglorious death, but Ohio-based Systemax (which owns TigerDirect) didn’t shell out $30M to pick up the pieces for nothing: it’s just announced that it’s re-opening 15 US stores and opening a new one, 13 of which are in Florida. We’re not sure why the Sunshine State faces the brunt of CompUSA’s angry zombie wrath — do retirees enjoy being ripped off?* — but Texans and Puerto Ricans can join in the fun with four stores of their very own. These are all apparently open now — anyone brave enough to check out the scene? (Read the full post about ‘CompUSA rises from dead, attacks Florida’…)

Limited edition Renault Sandero to boast Nokia branding, N95
by Darren Murph, posted Apr 24th 2008 at 9:37PM Nothing shows your complete and unwavering devotion to a handset maker like buying an ultra-rare vehicle with its logos on there, wouldn’t you agree? Those vigorously nodding up and down (well, those vigorously nodding up and down in Brazil) can get set to grab a limited edition Renault Sandero, which will come “fully equipped with Nokia’s navigation system and [undisclosed] car add-ons.” The super-special Sandero will come stocked with an N95 and cost around €17,650 ($27,693), but you’d better hurry, as only 1,000 of these niche motorcars are being built. It’s like Nokia heard your cries for letting the chance to nab one of those co-branded Twingos sli (Read the full post about ‘Limited edition Renault Sandero to boast Nokia branding, N95′…)

GPS Logger Tracks Your Mail

Posted on: 25, Apr

GPS Logger Tracks Your Mail
The GPS mail logger tracks itself. The idea is that you slide it into an envelope to discover why your mail is being delayed. The logger can be set to record positioning data at timed intervals or when it detects movement. It looks fairly easy to use, and integrates with Google Earth, but we see problems. One, it costs $700. Two, what if it gets lost in the mail. There would be a supreme irony in losing a GPS tracker in the post (the data is recorded to a MicroSD card, not beamed directly to the owner). Three, even if your mail is going astray, what do you do? Call up the postal service and complain that the mail van was stuck in traffic for two hours? No. (Read the full post about ‘GPS Logger Tracks Your Mail’…)

Kodak ESP 5 All-in-One Printer

Posted on: 25, Apr

Kodak has just released the ESP 5 All-in-One Printer that is touted to offer the “latest in design and performance, providing a high quality, easy-to-use printing system.” It will utilize a 2-cartridge setup consisting of a full black cartridge and a five-ink color cartridge which retail for £6.99 and £9.99, respectively. I personally prefer the older Canon cartridges that use individual color tanks since those will help you save money in the long run. Other features of the ESP5 include a 3″ color LCD display, a memory card slot, and USB ports for easy printing options if you do not happen to have a computer in the vicinity. The Kodak ESP 5 will retail for £129.99.

Review: AMD Phenom X3 8750 Triple-Core Processor
AMD’s triple-core processors have been on the horizon for months now and, after all the speculation and derision, they are finally here. The launch included three Phenom X3 processors: the 8750, 8650, and 8450, all of which will come in at under $200. AMD is, as expected, positioning these processors between their dual-core and quad-core offerings and is targeting cost-conscious consumers, people who will appreciate the performance boost but would rather save a few dollars than go with a quad-core. The three 65nm models will arrive at 2.1, 2.3, and 2.4GHz frequencies, respectively priced at $145, $165, and a hefty $195 for the 8750. These models have a TDP of 95W and 1.5MB total L2 cache per processors as well as 2MB shared cache. (Read the full post about ‘Review: AMD Phenom X3 8750 Triple-Core Processor’…)
