It’s the future as seen in Steven Spielberg’s “Minority Report,” but it’s happening in the here and now: advertisers and retailers tracking your every move.

In the Tom Cruise blockbuster, that tracking was done via optical recognition whenever his character walked into a Gap or walked by certain ads; in the case of the cable company Charter Communications, the tracking will be done every time you click on a favorite website.

Broadband Reports first dug up the emails that were sent by Charter to its high-speed subscribers notifying them of the “enhanced online experience” they’re about to enjoy, all made possible by technology inserted into ISP networks that tracks browsing habits and allows providers to target ads.

Mosquito Proof Jacket

Posted on: 14, May

Don’t you just hate those pesky mosquitoes when they seem to appear out of nowhere, especially during the summer? Napapijiri knows all about your aversion in getting bitten by mosquitoes and have developed this so-called Mosquitor Proof Jacket. Apparently this jacket also lets water run off it like wax by being waterproof, and is covered with a coat of “secret concoction of chemicals” that supposedly keeps away those vampiric parasites. The jacket won’t come cheap at approximately $310 though.

Dell’s XPS systems resurrected, WSJ is Judas
by Thomas Ricker, posted May 14th 2008 at 7:32AM Oops, looks like the Wall Street Journal was getting a bit of ahead of itself calling for the end of Dell’s XPS lineup. While Dell will definitely “invest like crazy” in its Alienware brand, XPS systems and indeed, XPS gaming systems “will remain an important part of our gaming product portfolio.” There won’t be an early phase-out of the XPS brand as reported by the WSJ. So there you have it, Dell XPS, resurrected after just one day in the tomb. Michael Dell truly is a savior. (Read the full post about ‘Dell’s XPS systems resurrected, WSJ is Judas’…)

The Education Ministry, Electoral Service and military servers used by the Chilean government have been infiltrated by a hacker. The servers contained the personal details of over 6 million Chileans, which has now briefly become publicly available through a forum posting to a technology blog site.

The story was reported by the El Mercurio newspaper, which said the hacker also left a message stating his reasons for the act. His intention was to uncover just how poor the security was on these important servers and show the lack of overall data protection there exists in Chile.

The 6 million records included full addresses, telephone numbers, ID card details and academic records.

Internet TV heads for Cars Now

Posted on: 14, May

Just when you thought the car was safe from the long tentacles of TV, USTelematics throws a spanner in the works by delivering IPTV to its Voyager in-car entertainment systems, allowing drivers and passengers alike to continue their couch potato habits while stuck in rush-hour traffic jam. In addition, USTelematics will offer a “mobilecast” program known as 4VDO which will deliver both broadcast and video programming. I suppose with moves like these, it is only a matter of time before fast food companies begin to offer delivery services for those in a gridlock.
