Metal Gear Solid 4 is taking so long that maybe the 5G ipod was current when it was time to render Solid Snake’s mp3 player. Or maybe Snake just likes to keep things old school. Either way, these screenshots from the show yet another video game cameo appearance from Apple.

Furthermore, you can now buy the Area-51 m9750 gaming laptop direct from the Dell website in addition to the Area-51 m15x, which doesn’t seem all that wild to us — we’re more interested in why Dell picked the super-geeky XPS brand to be its “premium” line. Liquid Powered Clock
This is an awesome invention that is great for the environment. This product does not use batteries or electricity. You simply use water, juice, or any other liquid that is an electrolytic fluid. You never have to worry about having enough batteries or the electricity going off and having to reset your clock all the time. There is a special energy converter inside that allows the water or liquid to produce enough energy to run the clock, but you have to keep enough water in the chambers on the back. This clock is great for those who are concerned for the environment as well as those who never have enough batteries around. Gimme! (Read the full post about ‘Liquid Powered Clock’…)

Laptop traveling advice from a security legend
The world of computer/network security and encryption owes a lot to Bruce Schneier. Not only was he a pioneer in designing some of the early algorithms for protecting data, he has also helped to shine a light on the arcane world of cryptography for a mainstream audience through his writings, media appearances and overall advocacy, which has included Congressional testimony. So anyone who travels with a laptop would do well to heed the advice he offers in an op-ed piece in the Guardian. Schneier writes about a recent federal court ruling that allows customs agents to search all electronic devices, including laptops, when traveling to the U.S. (Read the full post about ‘Laptop traveling advice from a security legend’…)

by Tim Stevens, posted May 16th 2008 at 1:16PM If you needed evidence of the popularity of cheap ultraportables in foreign lands, the news leading up to the release of the MSI Wind should be a good indicator. Last month it was a Turkish video of the thing, now it’s a detailed Chilean writeup of a pre-release model. We’re relying on Google Translate to parse out the details here, but from what we can understand the article indicates the keyboard to be “sufficiently comfortable,” the LED-backlit screen impressive, and the performance in XP to be quite good.
