Useful application Android ScanJun 03, 2008
Scan is kind of Android application that implements useful functions: it finds pricing and metadata for everything with the help of a barcode.

There are some features that make it notable. At first, it has automatic recognition that is based on the barcode and uses phone camera and ZXing library. According to this, it searches for any kind of data through a lot of stores, gives detailed reviews, links.

For example, it can find a copy of a book in local libraries, if there is any.

The main users’ question is if it is easy to use Scan. All you have to do is to point a phone at a bare code and then scan. (Read the full post about ‘Useful application Android Scan’…)

GeCube’s 10.2-inch netbook gets stuck with VIA C7 processor
by Darren Murph, posted Jun 3rd 2008 at 3:43PM Talk about being behind the eight ball. With the Eee PC 901 and 1000 getting official, not to mention the onslaught of potent competitors, GeCube’s 10.2-inch alternative isn’t likely to steal much of the spotlight in Taipei. Nevertheless, the seemingly unnamed machine is ready to fight the losing battle with a 1.6GHz VIA C7-D processor, 512MB of DDR2 RAM (with an additional slot open), 1,024 x 600 resolution panel, 80GB SATA hard drive, stereo speakers, Ethernet, WiFi and three USB 2.0 jacks. Intel expects Atom processor shortage to end by September
by Joshua Fruhlinger, posted Jun 3rd 2008 at 11:27AMWith the Atom-based mini laptop orgy that has become synonymous with 2008, it’s no surprise that Intel has had problems meeting demand for the new processor. That should end soon, however, says Sean Maloney, executive VP and GM of Intel’s Sales and Marketing Group. Maloney points out that Intel now has four 300-millimeter manufacturing plants that he says will be doling out the silicon wafers en-masse by September. “We’ve got four 300-millimeter fabs, so we can really hose this stuff out,” he told PC World. In what I only hope is the tip of the iceberg, Best Buy is testing out a free recycling program at 117 of its 922 stores across 8 states and DC. This is great news. So far, many of the big electronics retailers do offer some form of e-cycling, but charge fees to handle most larger items, particularly computer monitors. Making e-cycling easier for consumers should only increase acceptance and uptake of recycling.

Kudos to Best Buy, and continued kudos to Best buy and other retailers that already have recycling programs.

Palm gains smartphone market share, thanks to the Centro
Recent numbers are showing that Palm has raised its smartphone market share, topping out at 13.4% for Q1, which is up from 7.9% during the last quarter. While Palm has seen a nice increase from the previous quarter, sadly they are still down 23% from the same time period from one-year ago. As anyone who is following the Palm story, even just a little bit, you could most likely guess that Palm is crediting the sales of the Centro for their increase. This jump for Q1 2008 places the increase from the previous quarter at around 70%, which is a nice jump. However it just goes to show that a $99 phone will make more people willing to commit. iHome iH69 and iH70 iPod Docks
iHome has yet another two ipod speaker system docks for you to part with your hard-earned cash - the iH69 and iH70. Both models feature an iPod dock incorporated directly into the base of the left satellite, making for a much cleaner overall design as the unnecessary clutter of a standalone dock is reduced. Doubling up as a charger, the iH69 and iH70 will also sync with just about any Mac or PC hooked up to speakers via USB. The black iH69 will retail for $100 while the silver iH70 is more expensive at $130, featuring a remote control, more powerful speakers and SRS WOW field-enhancing technology for superior audio. I’d say most iPod owners already own a speaker dock or two, so this will probably appeal to first time iPodders. (Read the full post about ‘iHome iH69 and iH70 iPod Docks’…)
