Nokia’s 8800 outdoes itself again with diamond-studded edition
by Darren Murph, posted Jun 6th 2008 at 10:52AM We don’t know what it is about Nokia’s 8800, but fashionistas and high-end designers just can’t seem to keep their fingerprints off of it. Enter Thomas Heyerdahl, the same artisan who gussied-up an ipod shuffle earlier this year. This fellow has crafted a version of the handset laced with 112 authentic diamonds, and it’s said that only 100 of the coveted (and individually numbered) mobiles will be made available. All told, you’ll find 0.7 carats of United Nations-approved diamonds per phone, and while the bulk of these things will be sold in select outlets for 30,000 Norwegian kroner ($5,933), numero uno is set to be auctioned for charity to the highest bidder. Sony HT-IS100 BRAVIA Theatre Micro System
Sony has rolled out its HT-IS100 BRAVIA Theatre Micro System that will definitely elicit “ooohs” and “aaahs” from anyone who lays their eyes on it. The main reason behind this sense of awe and wonder is the fact that the micro system comprises of five extremely small speakers which are roughly the size of a golf ball. Don’t let the tiny size fool you though, as the new audio/video system delivers a rich surround sound experience that can be easily integrated into a home theater. It comes with a trio of 1080p HDMI inputs with repeater functionality, providing support for eight channels of uncompressed audio. What is this ideal for? If Carl Icahn is successful in his proxy battle to oust the CEO and the Board of Directors at Yahoo!, there will be no doubt what he will be looking for as far as a price tag when it comes to the selling off of Yahoo!.

In a new series of letters written by Icahn to Yahoo! Chairman Roy Bostock, Icahn set the price for a takeover of Yahoo! at US$34.375 per share. That is a small increase from the US$31 a share offered by Microsoft back in April.

Icahn also recommended in his most recent letter on Friday that Yahoo! rescind its employee severance plan which Icahn accuses of being a “poison pill” to prevent a takeover by Microsoft.

Screen Grabs: Nokia’s XpressMusic 5610 causes Panic at the Disco
by Darren Murph, posted Jun 6th 2008 at 9:08AM Weird — doesn’t that shot above look scarily similar to this one? Okay, minus the coinage, paperwork and miniaturized human. (Read the full post about ‘Screen Grabs: Nokia’s XpressMusic 5610 causes Panic at the Disco’…)

Antiquated hardware used to masterfully remix Radiohead’s Nude
by Darren Murph, posted Jun 6th 2008 at 11:52AM It takes some serious game to rise above the legions of mediocre DIYers out there and stand tall as a true legend. Judging by the video posted up after the cut, James Houston can now consider himself one of the elite. Somehow, this cat managed to tackle the nearly impossible task of remixing Radiohead’s Nude without defacing it entirely (read: merging bits and pieces of the tune into a 4/4 arrangement and calling it a day). Instead, he utilized a host of aging hardware (Sinclar ZX Spectrum, Epson LX-81 dot matrix printer, HP Scanjet 3c, etc.) to create a rendition that even Yorke could admire. iCall enables seamless GSM to WiFi switching on iPhone
by Darren Murph, posted Jun 6th 2008 at 6:26AM VoIP has been ushered onto the iPhone in quite a few incarnations, but we’d wager than none of ‘em are as useful as iCall. Said application is currently in beta form, though a release isn’t quite ready for the public at large. Put simply, it enables iPhones to switch from GSM to WiFi (when WiFi is nearby, of course) on-the-fly in order to save cell minutes and bypass the hassle of manually changing over. Interested? We thought you’d be — hop on past the break to see a demonstrative video of the app in action, and keep a close eye on the read link for a sure-to-surface-soon download. Wii Spray: The Game of Vandalism That Doesn’t Exist Yet
Grand Theft Auto is one of the greatest, most controversial, and most notorious game brands to ever exist. Despite the amazing success of the newest addition to the series, Grand Theft Auto IV was not released for the Nintendo Wii console. Maybe they were waiting for the right time to release the game. Say, when they had an awesome new peripheral to make their version unique. So maybe vandalism isn’t a huge selling point for a game that features the mass slaying of prostitutes and high-speed pursuits. On the whole scheme of things, graffiti is the least of the cops problems in the GTA series. But even so, the Wii is in need of a little risque edge. Something to attract the solo angry gamer. Naked photos, teen porn on the rise
The internet pornography industry is massive, of that there is no doubt, and the USA hosts 89% (244,661,900) of them. This is a staggering figure, and one that first points towards a degrading society, and then to what impact this is having on the children of today. Statistics show that the average age that a child first sees pornography on the internet is 11, and that within the 8-16 age bracket 90% of children have viewed porn online. So is it really surprising that children are putting naked photos of them selves online? Not really. In La Crosse, Wisconsin, a 17-year-old boy recently was charged with child pornography, sexual exploitation of a child and defamation after he posted pictures of his ex-16 year old girlfriend on his MySpace page, but is now being prosecuted for the above offenses. Microdia Launches 64GB Compact Flash Card
Microdia has announced a new Compact Flash card, the 64GB XTRA ELITE CF, which will strike fear into the heart of the stoutest photographer. The massive 64GB CF card is the first to market, beating out Samsung, among others, and can carry 19,000 jpegs from a 20 megapixel camera. Of course, that also means you’d have almost 20,000 images sitting in one place; hardly a sensible option for anyone who has suffered a corrupted or worse, lost, memory card. We also wonder why anyone professional enough to be using a 20 megapixel camera and a presumably very expensive CF card would be shooting jpeg. A better use for that 64GB would be as storage for your computer, using Century’s CF to SATA adapter, especially with the card’s speedy 45MB/s read/write speeds.
