Nokia’s E-series to ship in Q3 alongside N96
by Darren Murph, posted Jun 9th 2008 at 10:03AM You already knew Nokia’s evolutionary N96 was all set to be shipped in the fall, but it’s about time Nokia came clean with the release information on its leaked-out-everywhere E-series. While Anssi Vanjoki, senior executive vice president of Nokia Markets, didn’t specify model numbers, it’s widely assumed that the E66 and E71 handsets are included when he states that “a group of E-series multimedia computers” will be brought to market in Q3. Silynx C4OPS GenNext Headset System
Talk about an unpronounceable headset name - the Silynx C4OPS GenNext headset system recently went on display at the Special Operations Forces Industry Conference in Florida. The C4OPS boasts ob being the first and only combat headset system able to provide GPS and force tracking capabilities to the dismounted soldier, courtesy of an integrated GPS receiver that locates the soldier’s current position, helping him zone in on the target through voice prompt indications. Hopefully this will be more accurate than those GPS maps that were poorly updated, having drivers end up in some rather ridiculous places like a ditch or kissing a tree. m21 Flat TV Console

m21 Flat TV Console
Check out the m21 flat TV console that merges both the old and the new, resulting in something that is fresh for those who have a penchant for the quaint in their homes. According to designer Joe Wilkerson, this concept was conceived and developed to test the waters of public interest, and judging by the amount of people it stopped, this could be a best seller assuming the price is right. Sustainable walnut hardwood is used as the housing, keeping the 42″ plasma HDTV all warm and cuddly while the center section of the m21 console is constructed from Fender amp screen material, specially designed to house a center speaker. There are plans to create a wider and lower version with opening doors for component storage in the coming days, so stay tuned. (Read the full post about ‘m21 Flat TV Console’…)

TakeTV D.o.A. with little Fanfare
Falling victim to ever increasing competition in the tech world, SanDisk has announced that it is closing it’s Fanfare video download service and ceasing production on it’s TakeTV device, which we reported on last year. That didn’t take long. In a very business-like and curt fashion, SanDisk informed users through the Fanfare Website that “Fanfare beta has come to a conclusion, and the Fanfare application will be disabled as of 5/15/08.” That means it took only eight months from announcement to it’s demise, which follows on the heal of similar video download services like Akimbo and Moviebeam. The difference, however, is that San Disk is not hanging their users out to dry. (Read the full post about ‘TakeTV D.o.A. with little Fanfare’…)

Us geeks seem to be a magnet for accumulating electronic crap. As we keep buying more and more gadgetry, our stockpile of unused electronic equipment becomes higher and higher. And of course, we can’t just throw out the excess. It would be way too much of a waste. The good news is that if you have a bit of an arts and crafts edge to your geekiness. there are some pretty cool ways to use the old electronic equipment to create new pieces of recycled art. These awesome animal sculptures are all the proof we need to excuse our pack-rat ways. ‘The Apple Store is Down’ SteveNote Generator
Over at BoingBoing gadgets, Rob, Joel and John are valiantly sacrificing their bandwidth in the name of parody. Above you can see some screenshots from their Keynote Generator, which will create a new, custom presentation on every page refresh, along with a song penned and performed by Joel himself (although Rob claims that it’s actually Liberace singing). The eerie thing is that, simply by using the right font and throwing in some suspiciously angled pie-charts, the boys have come up with a rather authentic looking slideshow. This should ship as standard with PowerPoint. As least it might keep viewers awake past the standard one minute snooze mark. Song + Generator: ‘Apple Store Is Down’ [BBGadgets. Blu-ray may have won the battle, but the war against consumers isn’t over
Although hd dvd has conceded defeat in the race to become the high definition successor of the DVD, and left the path open for Blu-ray, its still not been an easy going to convince consumers that they need to invest in this next generation disc format. In a situation that is reminiscent of the DVD growth over VHS, only 1 in 10 people are currently intending to invest in a Blu-ray player. After news that Blu-ray players are becoming significantly cheaper, the news also surfaces that only 9% of HD TV owners are planning to buy a Blu-ray player. This is nothing if not surprising, as one would have thought that if you were to spend $2000 on a new HD TV, you would want to be able to play HD movies.
