I’m truly sorry all of your glorious epileptic readers. It might not be very far to tout a gadget that might throw you into a fit, but we’ve gotta do it anyway. Flashing lights have been known to trigger seizures in some people. I’ve personally never had a problem, but for some it might be a bad idea. With that said, adding a personal lightshow to your music sounds like a pretty cool idea, am I right? The LED Lightshow Speaker is a customizable light effect speaker which comes with an assortment of different patters for creating your own lightshow matrix. Shipped with 48 colored cubes and 4 separate pattern modes, the LED Lightshow Speaker connects right into your stereo, portable media player, including the ipod, or other media device that can handle a 3.5mm plug. Few (if any) saw this coming, but the iPhone 2.0 software update improved not just the iPhone, but also a second, less popular Apple device: Apple TV. The most important aspect of iPhone 2.0 is its support for third-party applications available through the App Store. A free application called Remote allows users to view and control their Apple TV (or iTunes) library on their iPhone just like they would view their iTunes library on their computer. The application effectively eliminates the tedious chore of button mashing with Apple’s remote control. A day before the iPhone 2.0/3G launch, Apple quietly rolled out Apple TV 2.1, which added support for the Remote app. (Read the full post about ‘Update Turns iPhone Into an Apple TV Remote’…)

If you are willing to fork a mere $15,000, you could be the proud owner of this Force dynamics 301 simulator. The obvious goal of this machine is to reproduce the physical sensation of whichever simulator you would be playing. Now, I don’t know if Gran Turismo (or other games) are compatible, but the manufacturer says that it’s just a big PC accessory. Tokyoflash, a Japanese watch importer, has just announced they will be releasing a whole new bunch of unisex watches for their Nekura series. The watches all have that nice sleek metallic look and one is even inspired by a speedometer. The line itself is definitely for those that enjoy an almost industrial look added to their watch. Even while looking industrial, they still manage to make it chic. The fact that they are unisex is even better, it seems like thick heavy watches like this (which is my favorite kind of band) never come small enough for women. This new release will include five new watches, which are custom engraved and the wristband made of brushed stainless steel. Freesat has just released its Duo wireless electronic input pen in Korea, and this model is compatible with Microsoft Office, Notepad and MSN Messenger. You will be able to write messages in the air or on the computer display directly, depending on your preference. I would settle for the former as that would mean reducing the risk of scratching your display. Pretty cool technology - hopefully the external model for a smartphone can be released soon as well. The Duo will retail for $58 and $80 for laptops and desktops, respectively. (Read the full post about ‘Freesat launches Duo Wireless Electronic Input Pen’…)

The race to find parking in San Francisco is about to get a tad more sophisticated. Rather than drive around aimlessly looking for a spot, you’ll be able to look at your smartphone or a street sign to find an empty space. And then you and all the other people who see that space can make illegal U-turns and race to it. Come Fall, San Francisco is installing wireless sensors in 6,000 of its 24,000 metered spaces. When a spot is empty or occupied, each sensor will communicate with a nearby streetlamp containing a gateway, which will transmit the data to an internet network. Then, a message on a map on your smartphone screen or a display on a street sign will inform you of an open space. Sony has rolled out a new multimedia notebook in the form of the Sony VAIO FW, catering to high definition fans the way such movies were meant to be seen. You will be able to choose from a plethora of configurations, ranging from a standard to a premium model. Of course, the latter is able to play Blu-ray discs, letting you enjoy high definition content in full 1080 HD resolution when hooked to a compatible HDTV. In addition, it makes for a great backup device by storing, recording and playing back personal content on high-capacity BD media - I know I could certainly make do with 25GB of extra storage space. The FW notebook will tip the scales at slightly over six pounds, which makes it quite hefty. (Read the full post about ‘Sony VAIO FW notebook unveiled’…)
A new study, entitled World bandwidth growth over the next decade – is it viable? (PDF) has predicted that we are on our way to experiencing a global bandwidth famine.
The reason for the famine is the rate at which the world is using the available bandwidth compared to the the rate at which new bandwidth is coming online. Ultimately, right now we are using what’s available faster than we can increase the limit.
The study was written by David Payne, Institute of Advanced Telecommunications at Swansea University, UK and was sponsored by CIP Technologies.
