China’s putting up a really strong show at this year’s summer Olympics, backed by the home crowd. I wonder if the same can be said of the Veva S60 luxury cell phone from Qiao Xing Universal Telephone, Inc. This handset targets “female professionals with its unique and luxury design and features.” Through cooperation with Swarovski, each VEVA S60 is decorated with 129 Swarovski crystal mosaic and 18K gold coating. As thin as 9.4 millimeters, VEVA S60 also has long standby time. In addition to the above, you get the mandatory Bluetooth support for hands-free conversations as well as handwriting recognition software - a must if you’re ever going to enter the China market. Imation Corp. is not one company to rest on its laurels - they have just introduced an extension of its SSD product line that will target power users who seek performance above everything else. While the average SSD does pretty well on its own, there are still segments of the tech savvy population who crave for more and are willing to pay the price. Somce of these new products will be the PRO 7500 and the PRO 7000 PATA, which are incidentally powered by Mtron technology. More on the individual SSDs right after the jump. Imation SSD PRO 7500 The SSD PRO 7500 series is an ideal solution for individual and business applications with extreme performance needs such as high-performance workstations, storage arrays, database servers, Web servers and other network appliances. Hopefully you caught our entry on the Lego Donkey Kong. It appears that this classic Nintendo game is today’s theme with the release of Donkey Kong Jenga. This version of Jenga comes with 54 black hardwood blocks made up to look like the classic Donkey Kong girders. This Donkey Kong Jenga looks like it has different rules than the traditional one of “you take a block from the bottom, and you put it on top”, as it comes with a spinner and some multi-colored playing pieces. Now you can help Mario save Pauline, or…the whole thing comes crashing down, I guess. I suppose that it is just a matter of time before Jenga got into the franchise tie-in market. Fashion and solar panels don’t exactly blend well. A solar panel is of course important to keep your gadgets charged in an eco-friendly way. However, most of the time you’re going to have to sacrifice your fashion sense to have a solar-powered bag. There are a few good brands out there that do make an effort to keep their bags stylish, yet this is the first that features a smaller design that I’ve seen. Most solar bags are larger totes or book bags. Which those are nice for someone that is on the go so much that they have to carry around a lot of stuff. Yet, something smaller like this would probably appeal to a great deal of women. (Read the full post about ‘The Solarjo Power Purse attempts to make solar panels fashionable’…)

Yes! Yes, yes, yes! This is what we live for. When two forms of geek hobbies emerge as one, it has the potential to be a beautiful thing. If this wasn’t model wasn’t built using two key images from geek culture, we’d probably take a single glance and promptly run away before we had a chance to laugh in the designer’s face. Luckily for Lego enthusiast Dan Kressin, his Lego Donkey Kong replica fits the bill. Using only Lego pieces, Dan Kressin recreated the original Donkey Kong screen, complete with living, breathing, kinetic movement. Kong throws barrels, just like in the actual game, while a depressingly sedentary Mario jumps up and down, avoiding the said barrels. In June NBC announced that it would be making the Olympics competitions available on the Web only to users of Vista, shutting out Macs, Linux, and even Microsoft’s own Windows users. They appear to have relented, I’m happy to report, at least admitting those of us still using Windows XP. I can’t testify about the other OSes from personal experience, but if you do Mac or Linux, give it a try and drop us a line to let your fellow users know if it works. Lots of this is available in real time. But if you miss the competition in a favorite sport because you have a life, here’s a chance to catch up in those moments when your life has quieted down. I have just watched part of the U.S. (Read the full post about ‘The Olympics are online after all’…)

You’ve doubtless seen solar powered chargers before (including a certain solar-powered bra charger) but as of last week, the mack daddy of solar chargers is available to buy: the Suntable is both a piece of furniture, and a one-stop gadget charging shop. It’s made of teak and stainless steel and is a good-looking piece of furniture in its own right, subtle enough to sit in any garden… as long as the garden’s owners can afford the $2,200 asking price, that is. Tired of your house smelling like smoke? Well then suck it up with this ashtray. It was specifically designed to suck that smoke into the dome and dispose of it. It does so by, breaking down the smoke into negatively-charged particles, which are then “captured by the positively-charged stainless steel lining of the dome.” I’m a little skeptical as to how it works and if it will actually stop the smell from getting into your home. After all, your cigarette doesn’t stay in the ashtray. At some point you have to take it out to smoke it. (Read the full post about ‘Ionic Smokeless Ashtray sucks up your smoke’…)
