Like many people, my backup scheme is still pretty basic. I keep multiple copies of important files (family photos, documents, etc.) on multiple hard drives and burn a couple of DVD-R discs now and then to store offsite. The better way would be to use one of the inexpensive backup services available. I’ve been considering three: Carbonite, Mozy, and JungleDisk (which uses Amazon’s S3 for storage). I was very surprised to learn this week that Carbonite does not back up a large number of file types such as .EXE, .ISO, and .CAB.

This is a special problem for Windows Mobile smartphone users who commonly purchase software online that are downloaded in the form of .CAB and .EXE files.

Super-sized BlackBerry Bold lands at Rogers, August 19 launch looking good
The latest rumored launch date of August 19 for the BlackBerry Bold with Rogers seems like it just may come true. Of course, Rogers has still not officially confirmed this date, but thanks to some pics posted over on HowardForums we can see that at least some locations have begun to receive the official Bold Launch kit. We have recently seen a few carriers launch the Bold, but sadly North America has been left out until this point. We can only hope that Rogers will be able to follow through on this latest rumored date, and that AT&T will not be much longer afterward. One Umbuster To Rule Them All

One Umbuster To Rule Them All
Here’s an umbrella that might make would-be-thieves think twice of mugging you. The Umbuster Umbrella’s handle is basically a set of brass knuckles, sans the brass. The handle comes in either wood or aluminum finish. Having said that, it’d probably be quite hard to land more than a punch or two with this umbrella, as the umbrella obviously is still very much attached to the brass knuckle, so don’t try taking this umbrella into a serious fight. While it might be good for scaring off thieves, the price tag of $330 will do an ever better job of ensuring that you have nothing left for them to steal. Australian woman seeks adultery revenge on eBay
An Australian woman has decided to publicly expose her cheating husband by selling his items on eBay. Anna found out her husband was committing adultery when she received a text message from him that was quite romantic – not something she was used to. Returning home her husband was watching a DVD and didn’t want her to go into the bedroom. She did anyway and found a condom wrapper and some underwear hidden under the pillows on the bed. His explanation that the female knickers were his didn’t go down too well. Anna threw him out of the house along with his wallet and car keys to be with his other woman, now known to be called Kylie. Sony are already leading the way with OLED TVs, which have been out in Japan since last year and reached North America in January. But so far there has been no release on the European market. That may change, however, if news reports this week are to be believed.

The Japanese business news outlet Nikkei business daily is reporting that OLED TVs are now being considered for the release schedule in early 2009 across Europe. They received their information froma Sony spokesperson who declined to comment further on any firm plans.

Both Japan and North America have an 11-inch OLED TV Model XEL-1 available at a cost of around US$1,800, but no further detail is available on the potential European models.

Lian Li PC-XB01 Launched

Lian Li PC-XB01 Launched
I find it interesting that the first Xbox, which originally had parts of computer and crammed into a console form factor, will now return to its roots in the form of the Lian Li PC-XB01 chassis that houses the Xbox 360 innards within. Made completely from aluminum, the PC-XB01 features plenty of room inside for cool airflow, while the 120mm rear fan is able to channel heat from within to without in a silent and elegant manner, greatly reducing the risk of the console overheating as it is wont to do. Individual Xbox 360 ports are hidden behind dust covers for both aesthetic and convenience reasons. Will you be getting this when it is released? Colorful iPhone 3G silicone cases in packs of 10
If no one has ever accused your closet of being monochromatic, dark, or too dull, then this Mega Combo Pack of 10 silicone cases designed for the subtle curves of the iphone 3G would probably fit right into your wardrobe. The $70 pack includes “100% pure silicone” textured skins in yellow, golden yellow, blue, orange, pink, green, white, black, gray, and dark gray I’ve never heard of most of the colors before (they must be new), but my hangers say they know the last three all too well. Mommie Dearest, be damned. I’m switching to wire hangers this instant. I hear they’re not as judgmental. Via technabob. PSP-3000 A Reality

PSP-3000 A Reality
The PSP-3000 rumor is not a rumor after all, after the FCC has listed the device. Unfortunately, this FCC filing does not confirm any of the previous PSP-3000 spyshots that were floating around the Internet, so it remains to be seen just what aesthetic improvements this revision will hold. I also wonder what are some of the specifications that will be changed? Perhaps Sony will throw in a much better battery life in addition to an integrated microphone and webcam? The presence of an internal flash drive or hard drive will also go a long way in winning over new fans. (Read the full post about ‘PSP-3000 A Reality’…)
